Sophie opened her mouth to say something but then closed it, realizing that there was a better way. "I'm going to need all of you to promise that you will keep this a secret. We don't need anymore problems on our hands, and if this gets out then a whole new set of issues will come to light. I didn't want to ever tell anyone about this but in this case I need to, and this information is best just kept in the dark. So seriously, don't tell anyone."
They all looked around at each other for a second then nodded. Biana answered on behalf of all of them, "We promise. We won't tell anyone. Everyone knows the last thing we need right now are more problems."
She exhaled in relief, "Good, and thank you, really," She started walking over to her desk as she explained, "So as you know, the black swan used to speak to us in coded messages. Sometimes giving me little things to try and hint at who they were. Or who I really was. So, one time, in the beginning of it all, they gave me this," She opened the bottom drawer of her desk and pulled out the spyball, holding it up to show everyone.
She wondered why she had the gut to tell them about this. It had been her little secret from everyone in the lost cities. Yet here she was holding it up for all of her friends to see. Although that certainty probably came from the fact that it was one of the only, and quickest ways to find Keefe. So putting it into the light was important.
There was a mixture of reactions. All of them were good. Thank god. Tam and Fitz looked a little impressed she'd hidden it for so long, Biana had a mischievous looking grin on her face, and Dex just looked happy that they had a perfect way of finding Keefe.
"Honestly, this is perfect. Like you just so happen to have a spyball sitting in your desk, which os the perfect way to find keefe, and it wont draw any attention to ourselves!," Fitz explained, "But when people start asking how we found Keefe, what are we going to say? It's not like we can just openly admit you have an unregistered Spyball in your hands."
Sophie put the spyball back inside her drawer, "You have a good point but how else-" She couldn't finish her sentence on the account of Grady opening up her door.
"You can always just use mine, I've got one. And before you say anything, no I wasn't listening in. I was walking up to the leap master to talk to Alden about everything that's going on and overheard your conversation."
"And about the pendant feeds," Dex added, "I can go to Rimeshire and hack into them to erase the data that says you went to the Forbidden cities, and because he just left, we can prevent the council from even knowing about all this by erasing Keefe's pendant feed information too."
Sophie was stunned. They literally had all that they needed. All they had to do was put the plan into action. She smiled, truly grateful for the friends and family she had, "Alright, Grady, Tam, Lihn, Fitz, Biana, and I can go and use Grady's spyball to find where Keefe is, and Dex you can go get what you need to erase the pendant feed information. Once we go, I can teleport a few of us there. Biana can you make us invisible while we teleport? Humans are not all that used to people teleporting and leaping around all the time."
"Yep!" She exclaimed as she disappeared and reappeared a few seconds later.
"I can't believe this all worked out so perfectly," Dex remarked as he pulled out his home crystal.
"I know right? It never goes this well. When was the last time something worked in our favor?" Biana responded.
"Well, let's get to work a;ready and not jinx our chances!" Fitz laughed.
Sophie smiled and shook her head, turning toward Grady, Tam, and Linh. "Thanks for letting us use your Spyball Grady." She paused for a second before she added, "It means a lot."
He smiled as he led them down the stairs toward his office and replied, "No problem Kiddo. We need our Keefe back. I don't think he realizes how much you all need each other." He opened the door and went to his desk, pulling out a grey spyball.
"Do you want me to do the honors? Or shall you? I mean this is Keefe Sencen we're talking about here." He had a little knowing smile on his face, and for the first time she understood why. Her heart did a little flip at the mention of Keefe, and her brain was screaming at her to just take the spyball to find where Keefe was already.
"I think I'll do the honors if you don't mind." Her hands shook as she took it. They were going to find Keefe! And this time he was staying home for good.
The rest of them crowded around her as Edaline came into the room. "Are you guys looking for Keefe?"
"Yes, can we say his name already? I think Sohie here is getting impatient," Tam noticed, and he wasn't wrong either. She was clutching the spyball like her life was dependent on it. She was itching to find him and wrap him in a crushing hug telling him how much he mattered to everyone and that he wouldn't be going anywhere away from her again.
"Yes I am getting a little impatient," She blushed and narrowed her eyes trying not to smile, "Now are you going to come over here or am I going to find out where he is without you?"
Edaline laughed as she walked over to them. "Let's bring our Keefe home."
When she was huddled around the spyball Sophie murmured, "Show me Keefe Sencen."
In the middle of the spyball she saw Keefe, walking through the streets of San Diego towards a park she often went to as a kid. She smiled, it was a place she knew well, and thankfully she could navigate through the city if she needed to.
He seemed to be sitting at a park planning on what he was going to do now that he was actually in the forbidden cities.
"Poor thing, he doesn't look too happy to be there..." Lihn noticed.
"Well yeah no kidding. He's been through a lot and I don't think being away from his friends and family is doing him any good. I will say, from what I've seen, he needs you more than he realizes Sophie," Fitz looked up at her, "And I know he knows this, but you really do mean a lot to him."
Sophie looked back down at the spyball. He really didn't look happy to be stuck there. Which made her want even more to just teleport there right at that moment and bring him right back.
"Let's go get him." She handed the spyball back to Grady, giving him her thanks again.
He smiled, "Just make sure you're careful there Sophie."
"We don't want you coming back needing another healing center visit!" Edaline added as she hugged her.
"We'll make sure she won't," Biana smiled and tugged on Sophie's arm, who was struggling to keep herself from grinning, "Come on, let's hail Dex to see if he's ready and then go get Keefe already!"
They walked outside and over to the cliff as they hailed Dex. When his face appeared on the little screen he said he was all set, and just needed them to start. After saying their good wishes they hung up the imparter. Looking around they all shared a determined look. Everyone knew that no matter what they would come back with who they came for. So they grasped each other's hands, waited for Biana to make them all invisible, and jumped off the cliff.
