(Y/N) had spent the past four hours running around three cities, including where she and Hawks had seen the Reaper base, and had acquired exactly one (1) piece of information and some assorted snacks. She was deeply exhausted, so she decided to stop at the cafe for a break.
"Hey there little lady, what's got you so tired?" (Y/N) broke out of her daze at the young barista's voice. It was smooth and beautiful and almost felt like a much-needed nap.
"Working on a case. Rough stuff."
"Sounds like it. Howzabout I leave your order on the house, just for today?" The woman had a southern accent, and much as you can while speaking Japanese. "My manager's not here, so keep it on the down-low," she whispered, winking as she did.
(Y/N) smiled. "Thank you, ma'am."
"Anything to take care o' y'all. You heroes are the only thing holding this place together." Her smile was golden and her disposition was just the same, matching her honey blonde hair.
"Oh, thank you," (Y/N) muttered, blushing a little.
"I have an appreciation for y'all, I grew up in America, you know."
"You don't say!"
"Mhm, it's pretty crazy back there."
"Yeah, yeah it is," (Y/N) agreed. "I'm (Y/N) by the way," she added, the introduction falling past her lips before she could think about it.
"Th' name's Lorelai."
"Nice to meet you," (Y/N) replied, a grin upon her face. Lorelai returned the grin, which was hollow if but for a few seconds. "Also, can I get a cinnamon roll?"
"Absolutely of course darlin, let me get that for you."
Later, the two of them exchanged numbers, promising to chat later. Lorelai was beautiful and charming, just enough to make (Y/N) want to be friends with her. Once again, everything seemed hopeful, and she left the cafe ready to continue the case.
Meanwhile, Hawks was gliding lazily through the sky, half paying attention. The past few days, barring the time he'd spent with (Y/N), had been quite dull, surveillance and recon and the like. A scream cut through the air, bringing him back to reality. He glanced over the landscape and caught sight of the source of the scream, a guy being mugged in an alleyway. Hawks sent a feather to shove him across the road and knock him down. One of Hawks' sidekicks was there, they could arrest the bad guy. Hawks scanned over the landscape again, looking for something, anything about the Reapers.
The sky was beautiful, clear and with only a few clouds. It was almost distracting, but then again this was Hawks. He didn't get distra-oh hello.
Rude, his thoughts interrupted my narrating. Let's at least just see what he's got his attention on, alright. As it turned out, he'd caught a glimpse of a large amount of white on the top of a skyscraper, likely to be something important. He changed directions, heading in the general direction.
Hawks stayed low, knowing that his wings were bright and easy to spot at a distance. Sure enough, it was a collection of Reapers, lobbing small firecrackers off the building. They were small enough to go off before they had fallen too far, and the building was so tall that the people below didn't notice, but that wouldn't last long. He looked over the roof, wondering how they got up there. One of them must have had a flight or levitation quirk, since there was no door. Either that, or someone had taken them up there. He looked at the four of them, noticing that one of them had a pair of metal wings. Was it a quirk? Was it tech? Who knows.
He considered his options. He could get them down and to the police, however it would run the risk of starting a fight against four people whose quirks he knew nothing about. He decided to send a feather for each of them and send them directly to the police, which is exactly what he did. The people each let out a surprised squeak as they were pulled away from the roof and did almost nothing to fight back. It was almost creepy.
