Dead leaves, laid flat on the bumpy forest ground, crunching as hurried feet rushed across them.

Her legs felt on fire as her whole body worked, darting in between trees and onto the asphalt streets of the local town. Fear over the overbearing pain everywhere, the only thing keeping them from catching her and the only thing that kept her alive thus far.

A building came into view and she darted across the asphalt road and quickly shut the steel doors behind her.

A screech came from outside followed by little ticks as She slid deeper into the shadows and hid in between the tall shelves.

Heavy steps run off in the opposite direction and she slid to the floor while trying to contain her erratic breaths.

Rustling came from somewhere within the silence of the room and her guard immediately went back up as she picked up a pipe on the ground and stood up.

A figure moved in the shadows and a cold wave of fear washed over her as she tiptoed closer.

She gripped the steel tighter and swung but the figure ducked out of the way and the steel pipe ended up hitting a glass bottle on the shelf.

It felt like slow motion as the bottle fell slowly towards the ground and shattered into multiple shards against the smooth, cold ground.

The girl's blue eyes widened.

A bang came from the roof before more glass shattered and ticks echoed around the room.

The figure grabbed her and moved them carefully further away from the third presence.

The teen could feel panic clutching at her insides along with the adrenaline coursing through her veins as the being rummaged through the shelves.

There was nothing but silence as the two remained as quiet as possible. The being was noticeably frustrated as it screeched and the anxiety twisted even more in the girl's gut before the building's doors broke off its hinges and the thing was gone.

The hand over her mouth disappeared, giving her the opportunity let out a relieved breath.

She heard rustling beside her again before seeing the back door of the building swing closed.

The girl internally debated with herself before rushing out the door to catch up after the man's retreating back.

'My name's Claire, what's yours?' She signed but the dirty blond ignored her and kept walking.
'Sorry about what happened back there. Thought you were one of them. Can never be too careful.'

The man rolled his green eyes as the teen blocked his way.

'So, where we heading?'

'We are not going anywhere, I am,' he adjusted the bag strap in  his hand. 'Look kid, you should head on home back to your parents or whoever before they get to you, okay? Okay.'

Claire's mood visibly dropped as she stepped back.

'T-They're dead. All of them are'

The man groaned internally and rubbed his hand across his face as he looked at the sad teenager and cursed himself mentally before sighing soundlessly.

'Fine,' The blonde girl perked up instantly. 'you can tag along but don't expect me to hold your hand or some shit and Stay quiet unless too wanna get us both killed'

She nodded and followed in his bare footstep imprints along the sand trail.

Another soundless night on this quiet earth, survived.
