The sand slowly trickled into the room making a mess on the floor. It wasn't real, only a dream. Its rushing sound was merely an illusion.

He was fully aware that he was sleeping. In the waking world, he was only lying down on his bed. Here it was different. Here it was dangerous. It wasn't like a lucid dream where you were in control. He felt trapped here, waiting until his body awoke.

It was unpleasant. You would think being trapped in your nightmare was bad enough, but he also had to endure the shivers. He called them shivers. They would rack through his body every few minutes. With every movement the roar in his ears grew louder, drowning his attempts to calm his mind.

He had already gone through the same cycle at least five times. Through every one of those, a figure always seemed to appear. Haunting the corner of his eyes. It was dark and looming, watching him.

As soon as the shivers stopped it went away.

He whined as another shiver overtook him. He tried to scream, but his mind only drowned them out.

He hoped it would be over soon.

He hoped he could wake up.
