Did you know there was a scientific term for heart breaks? Scientists believe the heart temporarily enlarges when its "broken". The enlargement causes depressed heart pumping in that area. That was so unimportant but I had to share it with someone before I forgot.

Now that I've shared that with you let me introduce myself. I'm 17 and I'm probably the most unimportant person you'd ever meet. And I don't mean that in a bad way. I'm not sad or anything I just don't have a purpose outside of myself. So I choose to waist my time reading and becoming less unimportant.

I'll tell you more about myself after school. As a 17 year old I'm suppose to love school right, well I don't. I think it's another way to trap us all and make us crazier than we naturally are. I mean take me for example if I hadn't come to school none of this would've happened. I would still be my regular boring old self. But life had other plans for me.

___

She dressed differently from the other girls I'm used to seeing at school. It made her stand out but in a good way. She seemed full of life and death at the same time. She seemed out of it almost like her body was in overdrive. I mean she had no choice really. This town treated Maraj's like aliens. Because in this towns eyes they were aliens, just in human form.

I could see the fumes dispensing from Veronica's body. She hated when I showed anyone else attention. That's why I broke things off between the two of us last summer. She was just too her I guess. She acted like everyone else in this boring town. My worst fear was becoming like the people here. I wonder what she was like.

"My momma said her daddy murdered their family so they sent her here", Veronica gossiped. I could see her listening to them. Her brown skin glowed in the sun as her black hair flowed down her shoulders. She was dream like to say the most. "Beyoncé", Veronica grabs my face. "Hmm", I hummed keeping my eyes on the beautiful specimen in front of me. "I'm right here", she snaps her fingers in front of my face. I huff finally giving her the attention she'd been longing for. "You know I still I adore you but we just drifted apart", she pouted. I rolled my eyes at her dramatic expressions. "I completely understand, people drift apart all the time", I ended the conversation.

Veronica still tried talking to me but stopped when she realized who I was looking at.
"You know her family are murderers don't you? I wouldn't hang with her if I were you", she said loud enough for the entire class to hear. "It's a good thing you aren't me then huh", I say with a straight face. The class laughs making Veronica feel embarrassed. "I'm just looking out for you baby. I don't want to see you get hurt by their kind", she rubbed my thigh. "Stop", I yanked my thigh from her. The teacher walked in giving Veronica no time to say anything.

"Ok class we'll be reading", Mrs. Yathred was cut off by Miranda, one of Veronica's puppets. "My mother said I don't have to read this book. She said it isn't appropriate", she said. I looked back at her knowing she felt accomplished with that statement. "My mother said the same thing. She said we shouldn't give them the idea that they're better than us", another one voiced causing the pretty face to shift uncomfortably in her seat. "Miranda isn't your mother the same women that finished college with 3 degrees", I ask. She nods with a huge grin making me smile. "But doesn't your mom work for Old man Maraj?", I raise a brow. The entire class looks at her except the pretty face. "N-no. I mean...yes. But that doesn't mean anything their still not better than us", she said. "The sight of them makes me gag", Veronica laughs. "We all know what makes you gag", Charlie causes laughter to spread quickly. I shake my head giggling a bit. The bell rings and she rushed from the class almost immediately. I hurried behind her but I soon lost her in the huge crowd.

__

She sat on the bench all alone not making eye contact with anyone. I didn't know what'd I say to her. I didn't even know what she was like, but I wanted to. I sat beside her and let out a sigh. "I finally got you alone", I say. She stays in her posture not paying me any mind. I had to go about this differently. She wasn't like Veronica or anyone in this town. I had to be myself with her, no faking.

"Hey I heard you're old man Maraj's niece", she finally looks at me. I could see fear in her eyes like she was waiting for me to blow up on her. "Yea I am", she said. I looked at her more and she caught onto me. "Go ahead tell me how I'm going to hell and how I'm a loser", she snapped at me. "I wasn't going to say that", I lean back on the bench. She looks confused and I smile. "What do you want then?", she says with attitude. "If you wish peace, provide peace for another", I say. "Who said that?", she looks curious. "I'm not sure. But it did sound wise right", she smiles. Her dimples showed and it was the most magical thing I've ever witnessed. "I'm Beyoncé, and you are?", I smile. "I'm Onika, of pure Maraj descent. ", she says. "You don't have to do that with me you know", I informed her. "Trust me I do", her accent thickened. Her voice was so fun, and like nothing I ever heard.

She looked at her watch and her entire mood changed. She seemed worried that something was going to happen. "I have to go bye", she didn't look at me. "Could I walk you to your car?", she shook her head no. "No you shouldn't want to be seen with the school's weirdo", she held her books to her chest walking off. "I don't think you're a weirdo", I whispered to myself. I kicked the concrete, angry at the whole situation. Why did I have to grow up in such a shitty town?

I hit the steering wheel seeing a detour has been made near my house. "GREAT!", I yell hitting the steering wheel twice. I follow the detour and notice where it's taking me, old man Maraj's place. This entire road was private and I shouldn't even be in it. But this was the only way I could get home, I hope he could understand.

I see a car on the side of the road and a black figure walking away from it. The closer I get I notice the black figure. "Onika", the infamous beauty. I smiled as I pulled up beside her. I hopped from the car ready to give her a hand. She recognized me and sighed eternally. She really doesn't seem to like me and it's getting annoying. I gave her a smile and she rolled her eyes. I wouldn't let her attitude stop me from liking her, I know she'd like me soon.

I popped her hood open and smiled. Luckily it was a small issue that I could handle. I plugged the connector back together. "Try it now", I say. She turns the key and the car starts on the first try. "Battery disconnected", I plop the hood down. She gives her watch more attention than she does me again. "Bye", she closes her door. You're welcome, I whisper to myself. Why did I always let her walk away from me like that? Tomorrow I'll talk to her, tomorrow she won't walk away.

_____

I tried rushing up the stairs but I was caught. "Get down here", my mom yells. I cringe as I walk down the stairs slowly. I face her completely scared of what's about to happen. I feel a hard smack across my face sending me to the floor. I taste blood as I hold my cheek. I raise from the floor heading upstairs.

I stood in front of my mirror holding my now bruised face. She was such an asshole just like everyone else in this town. I laugh at my cowardliness as I spit the blood into the sink. Tomorrow will be different. I repeated into the mirror for the 1000th time. I meant it this time, this time would be different.

I sat in the shower as the hot water stung my face. I admit it hurts now but later I'd be fine. Hot water usually helps my bruises heal faster or at least that's what mom says. Feeling disgusted enough with myself I turn the water off. I dry myself off, immediately putting my robe on. I pounce onto my bed as my eyes slowly closed.
