Beaufort rubbed his temples as he slouched on the empty spot in the library. He put his head on the long study table and banged his forehead cursing his Fates.

He felt a hand covering the portion of his forehead which was supposed to hit the wood. "Beau, stop it. You're going to hurt yourself."

He recognized the voice of his best friend before he felt the older guy's presence.

Beau sometimes wondered if Conrad Louis King forgot that he was a Werewolf too and that it wasn't his forehead that needed to be protected, if anything, the table seemed to be sporting a teeny tiny dent from the former's constant, might he add soft, banging.

Beau's best friend of eighteen years pulled a chair next to him and plopped down on it. They were perched on the table joined below the windowsill in their usual spot. It gave them a clear view of the back garden of their college. It stretched on until it reached the woods. They both knew what was beyond those woods.

The Omega rolled his head to the side and squinted his eyes at the Alpha. Conrad still had his hands on Beau's forehead.

"You know as much as I do what is capable of hurting me, Alpha," Beau retorted with a sting in his voice, very well aware of the reaction he would be getting.

Conrad never liked it when people called him Alpha.

"Beau, I know you do not like the situation the Fates have put you in, but whining like a pup isn't going to solve anything," he sighed and Beau sat up straighter on the chair.

Conrad brought his right hand around the younger man's face and squished both of his cheeks turning Beau's lips into a pout like a pufferfish. "And you know how I feel about you calling me Alpha. Never do that again."

"Yes, Chad." Beau replied sarcastically.

Conrad Luis King aka Chad was the successor of the Gray Stone pack and the next in line for the Alpha throne. He was the son of The great Alpha Brenin Theodore King and The great Luna Reine Marie King. Conrad was the eldest among the three siblings. His coronation was already in the planning as he had just turned 20. He had been raised to be the greatest Alpha he could become from his younger days.

If Conrad was given a penny each time someone even mentioned him being the next Alpha King and what they expected of him, he'd have been a millionaire already. And that is precisely why Conrad didn't like being called Alpha when he wasn't one yet -or so he said.

But Beau, on the other hand, secretly believed that that isn't the reason Conrad disliked the title. He thought the older man was too scared for the Alpha responsibilities.

Beau glared at his friend, silently daring him to say anything more than what was already said. Conrad just shaked his head and released his hand.

Fates, why did you have to put me up with a human mate and an ass of an Alpha as best friend?

As much as the Omega wanted to wallow himself in self-pity, he at least had found his mate. The same couldn't be said for his best friend though.

Even though Conrad was an Alpha and even two years older than Beau, he hadn't found his mate yet. It was a bit sad- just a little, okay very little.

The bastard should have suffered a bit more for all the times he had ratted Beau out to his parents. For some reason unbeknownst to him, they favored the future Alpha over their own son.

Beau huffed and flipped one of the books- that was lying on the table- open to distract himself from the thoughts revolving his mate or the pack responsibility or life itself. He took his notebooks out from the backpack along with his laptop. Conrad did the same and started typing on his computer.
