There goes another one. I thought that after last week's incident the people would stop. It's not the easiest thing for me to work here, but all the other workplaces aren't very trustworthy. At my last job, my co-worker got taken and I didn't want to wake up one morning suffocating in a coffin 10 feet underground, so I thought it might be better if I do the burying, rather than be buried. I can't leave and I can't escape this place. I'm just trying to survive, but man is it nauseating watching people getting buried alive.
I don't know what's wrong with this town. The cemetery keeps getting more and more people every single day. My shifts are done for today, I got home safely. I forgot to lock the door again. The TV must've been left on; that's gonna be a pain when paying my electricity bill. Someone left their shoes at the front door. But who? I'm asking myself this, but I'm mostly worried about turning off the TV. I'm walking through the main entrance and to my surprise, the mayor is at my house. Yippee! That was supposed to be sarcasm, this guy is the main reason why we are dealing with the "overpopulation" of this town by burying people alive. He stands up from a shabby couch I got at a garage sale for a half-decent price, the nicest one I could get.
"Nice to meet you, I'm the mayor of this town," this guy is more annoying in person than on the local news.
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Mayor. What brings you to this humble abode of mine?" I can't offend this guy or it's the end of the line for me and all my hard work will go to waste.
"I believe you've heard of last week's unfortunate incident, right?"
"Yes sir, everyone working at the cemetery has heard," I say this watching every word I say to this guy, trying to not look him in the eye.
"Hmm, I see..." he says, pondering for a moment, while I'm just hoping he's not thinking of getting rid of me himself.
"You see, the reason I came here was to offer you a special task that will be needed to be done to improve our small community. Of course, it's your choice." I'm pretty sure I don't have a choice in this.
"May I know what this task is, Mr. Mayor?" I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about what this "special task" is. Why me? Out of all the workers at the cemetery, people barely even notice me!
"The task is quite simple, I just need you to place a rose on all the graves." If the task is so simple as that then why doesn't he do it himself?
"Is that all that is required for this task sir?" It's too simple. It smells fishy.
"Of course, a few documents will need to be signed for everyone's safety and privacy."
He gave me the documents, I skimmed them over quickly; this man came prepared.
"I'll give you a week's time to decide," he said as he let himself out the front door.
That just happened... the mayor actually came to my house and spoke to me. I'm trying my best to not attract any unwanted attention, but it seems that my efforts are sadly in vain. Good thing I don't have anything of value or else I would've been panicking that a complete stranger was in my house.

It's already 8:36 PM, it's been around 3 hours since the unexpected guest came to my house. Tomorrow is my day off, so I'm thinking of maybe doing some groceries, napping and then thoroughly reading the documents that the mayor gave me. I prepared myself a cup of Camomile tea with two teaspoons of sugar to calm my nerves. Today was a very odd day, not the good kind of odd. After finishing my tea I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth and went straight to bed. I didn't fall asleep until around midnight. Normally I don't dream of anything, but last night I had a very disturbing dream. A dream I'm afraid might come true very soon, it felt so realistic. Luckily I woke up in bed and not underground. For a short while, I stayed in bed staring at the ceiling just wanting a normal day. It's 6 in the morning, I really need to stop waking up so early on my days off.
Finally, I got up, yawning while stretching my arms. Soon the streets will be bustling with noise. I better hurry to the grocery store before it gets packed with people. Somewhat unconsciously I ate breakfast and got ready. As I went out the door I saw something from the corner of my eye, the landlady. She's a small elderly lady, kinda chubby, I always see her out on the balcony reading the daily newspapers while wearing her different flowered dresses, a different one every single day.
"Good morning resident, how are you this fine morning?" She says this quite happily looking up from her newspaper.
"Good morning Mrs. Landlady, I am doing well, I'm just out to get some groceries," she's a very two-faced person, it seems like she had her morning coffee to be in such a good mood.
Lucky me. Then, after the small talk with the landlady, I finally started heading toward the store. It was a short ten-minute walk from my house to the store, but on my way, I knew I had to pass the cemetery. Honestly, I dreaded it... The way to the store was uneventful, but on my way home things took a different turn.
I was almost home when suddenly, I sensed an odd presence. Was someone watching me? I thought I saw something as I turned to look behind me. Was someone following me? Nothing seems out of the ordinary. Must've been my imagination. it's just a street with lots of people going in my direction, I say this doubting my own words as I speed up hoping to get home sooner than later. I ran past the crowds, pushing through the people to get rid of this uncertain feeling of danger. Eventually, I arrived home, I dashed up the front steps almost tripping over my own feet. While I tried to open the door I was having a hard time getting a grip on the handle, then I went in. I quickly slammed the door shut behind me, I let out a big sigh of relief as my heart was pounding as if it were a train on the tracks from the exhaustion I felt, running all the way here.
I'm okay. it was just my imagination. For a slight moment, not even a second, I let my guard down. That was my first mistake. All of a sudden I felt a bit of pain in my neck, my vision got blurry. Quickly I turned around trying to find the source, but my legs felt weak. I was falling backwards, I saw red droplets on the ground, touched the back of my head and felt a numb sensation throughout my body. I looked up - and for a moment thought I saw a silhouette. Then it was lights out.
