Seventeen Years Later

KIRA's POINT OF VIEW

"I am so hungry, please mother, some food!".
I whined like the spoilt brat that I am.

"Fine, I'll make you some porridge".
My mother laughed. "You naughty girl". She shook her head at my antics before going toward the kitchen.

Yes! Here's my chance to sneak out. I waited for her to enter the kitchen, then I made a run for the door.
I could hear her yelling from behind me. "You little fox!"... Then some incoherent words, but I didn't stop for the world. I ran as fast as my legs could carry and made my way to the fields where Bianca and Lila, my two best friends, were waiting for me.

"Whoa, calm down, cheetah". Bianca cautioned.
Biana is my ever so fearless friend. I call her the curvy ebony goddess with a tongue as sharp as a razor because no one can win an argument against her!

I didn't reply immediately as I was trying to catch my breath.
"Good to see you too, Bee. Don't tell me you both started without me". I pouted.

"Don't look at me, it was Lila's idea".  She said defensively.

"Nice try, Lila would never do that to me, right, Lila?".
I turned to Lila, my other best friend.
Lila is a red-haired beauty with grey-colored eyes and a shy persona. She barely looked anyone in the eyes when she talked, not even me who has been her best friend since childhood.

"Right".  Was Lila's only response.

I turned to Bianca. "You see, Bee, I trust Lila"

Bianca fumed. "You can't judge the whole situation based on one word she said. Lila is no saint..."

We continued with our endless, baseless arguments.  As I said, she never loses, so, I accepted defeat and went ahead to pick some berries. My mother hated pichaberries and forbade me from eating them but you might have guessed by now that I don't listen...sometimes.

It is the best time of the year, the land is as green as can be, flowers are blossoming and fruits were ripening. Farmers make good sales by selling fresh fruits to travellers who stop by our market.

One look across the field and you'll see the White River. It is the one thing that attracts tourists and sightseers. I can say that if not for the White River, Konland would be just another undiscovered small town.

We played and chased each other around the field and lost track of time. When we were done acting like five-year-olds, we began packing our things and talking about random things. It was getting dark, mother would kill me.

"Lila is crazy obsessed with Prince Edrin". Bianca laughed.

"I am not obsessed. I love him! You always say mean things, Bianca".  Lila almost had tears in her eyes from Bianca teasing her.

"Calm down, Lila, you know she doesn't mean it".  I tried to mediate between them before it escalated.

"You only saw him once, that's not love-"

"Bee. Stop it please".
I gave her the look and she stopped.

Suddenly, we heard a loud warning from afar...   "Run!! Rebels are attacking!!".

"My God! Not again". Exclaimed Bianca.

We started running in the direction of our respective homes, I remembered something.

"Bianca, I left something important at the field! I need to get it! Go ahead, I'll join you!".

"Are you insane?! Get back here now!!".
Yelled Bianca, but I had already turned on my heels back to the fields, I  didn't hear the rest of what she was saying.
