So basically, Katie and Travis haven't discovered their undying love for each other. This is when Travis discovers his love for Katie. But Katie is oblivious. Naturally.

This is the summer at the end of The Last Olympian, after the war and all that jazz.

Enjoy!

Travis POV

Today is the Sing Off. It's basically a Talent Show, so I don't know why we have to be all formal and call it a Sing Off.

Anyway, only 10 people are performing today at the Amphitheater.

I nudged Connor, who was sitting next to me. "You're girlfriends performing." I said wiggling my eyebrows and pointing to her name. "She's not my girlfriend!" Connor said, his face a million shades of red. "Yah, sure." I said sarcastically.

As Chiron got up, and began introducing the first singer, I looked around us, hoping to find one certain girl. Katie. She sat fairly close to the stage, Miranda next to her. Her soft brown hair cascaded down her back, like a perfect waterfall.

"You know, your not much better." Connor said. "What do you mean?" I ask, snapping out of my staring fit. "Oh please, for the amount of times I catch you staring at Katie, you might as well be dating." Connor tells me. "Shut up." I say with pink cheeks.

We listen to all the singers, and before we know it, it's the last persons turn.

"Give it up for, Miranda, and Katie Gardner!" Chiron announces.

Katie's performing?

She looks just as confused as me, but Miranda drags her onto the stage, and I can tell she has stage fright. Music starts and Katie is violently shaking her head at Miranda, but Miranda starts singing anyway. Reluctantly, Katie is singing too.

Defying Gravity. From Wicked. I would never admit it, but I'm a bit of a Musical Theatre nerd.

Katie starts singing Elphaba's solo, and her voice is quiet, but beautiful. Her eyes are tightly shut, but she begins singing louder.

"Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity, and you can't pull me down!" Katie sings opening her eyes as a few cheers come from the audience. Katie becomes more comfortable and is swaying and using her arms while singing. Miranda singing Glinda's parts, and she's a good singer too. I sneak a peak at Connor, and he's gaping at Miranda in her light pink dress. Katie stands next her her wearing a green dress that stops at her knees.

"Well? Are you coming?" Katie asks, the music playing in the backround. "I hope you're happy. Now that you're choosing this." Miranda sings, taking a hold of both Katie's hands. "You too."

"I hope it brings you bliss, I really hope you get it and you don't live to regret it. I hope you're happy in the end." Katie and Miranda sing together, their harmonies on point. Goosebumps slide up my arms at their beautiful voices.

"I hope you're happy . . . my friend." They both sing, and Miranda leaves the stage, leaving Katie all alone. If she was scared before, that's all gone. She looks confident, happy, prepared, determined. She looks beautiful.

"So if you care to find me

Look to the western sky!
As someone told me lately
Everyone deserves the chance to fly!
And if I'm flying solo
At least I'm flying free
To those who ground me
Take a message back from me
Tell them how I am defying gravity!
I'm flying high, defying gravity!
And soon, I'll match them in renown
And nobody in all of Oz
No wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!"
Katie sings, the high notes not even straining her voice.

As she holds the last note, Miranda and the rest of the people who sand today, come out, and sing the ensemble parts. But Katie is not fazed. She stands center stage, her arms spread, and a single spot light shines on her, illuminating her perfect features. She sings the three high notes at the end, and I can't take it anymore. I stand up immediately after she's done, and cheer as loud as I can, with everyone joining me.

Even Miranda, and the other singers on the stage applaud her. Katie opens her eyes, after finishing, and she looks stunned. Like she forgot she was here. She looks so surprised that everyone loved her solo. She looks to Miranda with teary eyes. They share a hug, and as they pull apart, Katie's eyes meet mine, and she smiles. A genuine smile. She looks so happy. She looks perfect.

And that was the moment I discovered my love for Katie Gardner.
