32 - Field Test

(y/n)'s POV

I woke up to someone suddenly vigorously shaking me by my shoulders. I pried open my eyes and saw that it was Toga. I grabbed her hands and took them off my shoulders, sitting up and rubbing my eyes. I looked around and saw that it was just me and her in Dabi's room, he wasn't to be seen. Weird..

"Finally you're awake!! Now, put these on!" She shoved some clothes into my arms before standing and skipping towards the door. "I'll be outside when you done. Hurry up!" The door slammed behind her and I was left alone to change. I looked down at what was in my hands and I saw a black training bra, black muscle tee, and black joggers. I glanced back at the door and noticed that there was a pair of black vans and socks waiting for me. Whoever picked my outfit must really like the color black.... 

I quickly changed and put the shoes on before opening the door. Only, I got snatched and pulled into my room across the hall, door closing behind me. I looked and saw that Dabi had pulled me into the other room. I couldn't read his expression either. "Um, what's up?" I didn't know what else to say. He faced me and took a quick breath.

"They're about to do a field test." I nodded slowly, still confused.

"And this is something I needed to know because....?" 

"Because they're testing you." He paused but looked like he had more to say. "Against... a nomu." My eyes widened, I'd heard of all the damage that they could do and how the number one and two heroes even struggled some against them. 

"But why??" I was a little spooked to say the least. He shrugged a little, but I think that was more of a semi-nervous gesture.

"They wanna see the capabilities of your quirk and how useful you could be to us. And-"

"But I'll never work for you guys!!" I interrupted. He sighed heavily.

"You didn't let me finish." He looked at me to make sure he had my attention. "Shiggy said if you don't work with us, then it'll at least do enough to scare you out of doing anything rash." He shoved his hands in his pockets. I nodded. Then I heard Toga down the hall.

"Are you almost done in there (y/n)??!" She yelled from down the hall. I opened the door and jogged to where her voice was. Turning the corner, I almost bumped right into her. "Finally there you are slow poke! Now come on, let's go!" She grabbed my wrist and started skipping down to the exit, dragging me along behind her. I glanced backwards to see that Dabi was just walking leisurely behind, hands in his pockets and looking disinterested. As I was pulled outside the building, I took note of where we were........ which I had no idea where we were other than in a forest somewhere. "Are you ready for this??" Toga asked all excited, pushing me into the van and then getting in herself. I sweatdropped. 

"Why would I be excited?"

"Well you get some fresh air and aren't stuck in a stuffy room with beef jerky over there." She gestures to Dabi, who's sitting directly behind me. 

"Tch." He turns to face away from us. Toga giggles at his reaction. I just look back and forth between them as I feel the van start to move. 

"So uh... where exactly are we going?" I asked.

"Somewhere secluded." I heard Shigaraki call from the passenger seat up front. I slowly nodded. No shit sherlock... 

"Yeah I get that but I mean how long are we driving for?" 

"30 minutes." Kurogiri said from the drivers' seat. I nodded at that and settled into my seat. I stared out the window. Toga started humming to herself and.. I think I heard Dabi snore a little while Twice was.... arguing with himself in his sleep. I shut my eyes anyways and tried to get some rest even through the noise.

I woke up laying on a bench in the forest. I sat up, rubbing my eyes and looking around. I saw Dabi arguing with Shigaraki and Toga was hanging around Twice. Kurogiri was drinking water a few feet away from me. I sat there for a few seconds before Kurogiri noticed that I was awake. He called over the others. They huddled around me and started to discuss what was gonna happen but I zoned out.

"Got that (y/n)?" Shigaraki asked. 

"Uhhhhhh" I scratched my head. I missed all of that.... whoops. He let out a rather loud sigh, and face palmed. 

"We're gonna have a nomu fight you, no serious injuries though. We're just testing the parameters of your ability." Dabi stepped in to explain. I nodded at that. 

"Alright then, let's get it started." Shigaraki walked over to Kurogiri and I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves and racing heart. I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Dabi. He wasn't looking at me. I was about to say something until he let go and walked away like nothing happened. They're all so strange sometimes.... I started to do some stretches since I didn't know what else I should be doing to prepare. I was honestly really nervous and scared for this. Nomus were pretty strong and I'm still only a 2nd year student.... a chill ran up my spine as a nomu walked into my line of sight. My eyes widened and my body froze. I couldn't move. "Let's get it started (y/n), get into a fighting position and just signal when you're ready." I couldn't even nod to that. I was still standing there like a deer in headlights. It wasn't until a Toga's hand was waving in my face that I could finally breath properly. 

"Ready (y/n)-chan?" Toga smiled at me. I gave a nervous smile and nodded back, taking a few deep breaths and taking a stance to spar. I looked over at the group and gave a swift nod before facing my opponent, the nomu, and staring it down. Nothing left but to get this over with.... My left foot moved first, then right. I lunged forward.
