Caught
CERYS FITZGERALD HAD ALWAYS LOVED CARS. She especially loved to steal them and began doing it around the age of twelve, after her brother Aiden taught her to drive. Poppy always warned it was a bad idea to steal things but, both her siblings were unaware of the mischief their young sister would actually get into in her spare time.
On this particular day, the warm air in California was making everyone a bit crazy. The Fitzgerald siblings had just gotten into a fight about absolutely nothing, as usual. They would be fine in about three hours but Cerys needed to blow off some steam.
"This car is ugly as shit." The girl mumbled as she started the car, carefully looking around at the area.
She closed the door shut, grasping onto the wheel with a smile. Doing this gave her a rush, she felt like she was actually good at something and that was all that mattered. Well, besides getting out of this used car parking lot.
The Fitzgerald girl began to speed up, leaving her parking spot when a man stepped in front of the car. She immediately smashed her foot on the breaks and her head harshly hit the back of the chair she was in.
"What an asshole." She mumbled, sticking her head out of the window. "What the fuck—Oh."
"Yeah, get out of there." The mans arms were folded disapprovingly over his chest, an evident look of disgust on his face. Cerys immediately recognized him as Daniel LaRusso, the man plastered over billboards and in commercials.
"Yes, sir." The Fitzgerald girl sighed, turning the car off and stepping out. She monitored every inch of the area around her, wanting to find a way out and get away.
"I know what you're trying to do. Just throw me the keys and we can go inside." Daniel always had a soft spot for kids like Cerys, he knew that if he hadn't gotten into karate he might've ended up just like her.
"Fine." The red head tossed the keys to the car to Daniel, slowly walking passed him and towards the entrance of this particular LaRusso dealership. It was one of many, this just happened to be the biggest.
The two of them entered his office, Cerys heart racing at a million miles a minute. She had never gotten caught for anything like this. She was always way more careful, this time that just wasn't enough.
"What do you think I should do about this?" Daniel sat in his spinning chair.
"Let me go home." The Fitzgerald girl answered, folding her arms over her chest. "It won't happen again."
"What's your name?" The LaRusso man asked.
"Daria." The red head answered back, her leg shaking quickly out of pure and utter nervousness.
"Your real name." Daniel narrowed his eyes.
"Cerys." The Fitzgerald girl sighed. "Can I go now? My brother is probably expecting me home by now."
"Does your brother know that you steal cars, Cerys?" The LaRusso man was full of questions, where was her parents? Why was she stealing a car? All of the questions very valid according to the situation.
"How am I supposed to know?" Authority figures had always made her uncomfortable so, right now Cerys was going crazy. The girl ran a million scenarios in her head. Community service, juvy, none of which sounded appealing to her.
"Give me his number, I am going to have to have a talk with him." Daniel slid his phone over to the girl.
She sighed, typing the number in before sliding it back and laying her head on the desk. If Aiden wasn't mad at her before, he sure would be now. That was something she didn't have the capacity to handle at that moment.
But, with actions come consequences.
AIDEN EXITED THE OFFICE AS CERYS WALKED BACK AND FORTH OUTSIDE. He was angry, but not as angry as she had expected. That was a relief.
"You are so fucking lucky you are just a kid, Cer. What would you have done if Mr. LaRusso didn't have a daughter your age? You think he'd be so nice then?" The Fitzgerald man questioned, putting his hand on his sisters back and pushing her towards the exit.
"What's going on? Is he pressing charges?" Cerys felt like her heart was beating out of her chest in that moment. Everything she did felt good in the moment but not afterwords.
"No, you are joining his karate dojo. He thinks it'll fix your shitty behavior." Aiden sighed. "We can't be acting like mom and dad, that isn't us. Not me, not you, not Poppy, none of us."
"They made us, pardon me if I resemble them in some way." The Fitzgerald girl rolled her eyes. "and i'm not going to take stupid fucking karate lessons, you can't make me."
"I pay the bills and if I tell you to go somewhere, you are going to go." Aiden opened the car door, getting in. His sister stood there, arms crossed stubbornly.
"No." Cerys shook her head.
"Fine, then don't bother coming home. I'm tired of your bullshit, Cer. I love you and Poppy more than anything but if you can't put in the least bit of fucking effort I can't help you." The Fitzgerald boy slammed the car door shut harshly and turned it on.
The red head girl felt pools of tears rising up in her eyes. She sighed and got into the car, closing her eyes and leaning her head on the closed door. It seemed like nothing ever went right for her.
...but then again, anything can change in an instant.
