Before we start, i suggest you read this alone in a dark place. Things get rather spoopy and i want you to have the best experience possible.

Do tell of you feel spooped! I'd love to hear the reaction!

Inugami's POV

Well this is definitely an odd job...

The client wants us to visit a house near Mist Village. From what i can dig up, apparently there was a big fire a few months ago that killed an entire family and now there is a house that locals claim to be 'haunted'.

This job is already pretty fishy as it is. For one, we don't even know the client's name. The message sent was completely annonymous and the man who deliebered the letter said he got it from someone else and didn't know who they were.

Well a job's a job. Even if this does end up being a trick, we should at least investigate.

With all this in mind, i grabbed a suitcase filled with stuff that we may need and went out my office to gather the others.

I saw them all at the dining table watching TV.

Inugami "Shiki, Akira, Kabane. We're going on an investigation."

Shiki "all of us?"

Inugami "yeah. So tell your sister we'll be away for a while."

Akira "where are going?"

Inugami "a place called Mist Village. Apparently there were some claims on a haunted house there."

As expected, Akira began to freak out.

Akira "H-h-ha-haunt-ted house?!"

Inugami "calm down. Probably just a local tale. Now. Get your stuff ready and we'll be off."

I went and put my suitcase in the car and waited for the others.

*In the car*

While driving, i noticed how calm it was. Normally, Shiki would be arguing with Akira by now over something Kabane did but as of now, everything's quiet. Too quiet.

Inugami "alright... what's going on? Normally you'd all be shouting?"

Shiki "nothing. Akira's just scared of this haunted house thing."

Akira "of course im scared! You should be scared too! What if there are ghosts there...? Or dead bodies or..."

Shiki "just shut up already! There isn't gonna be anything! Probably just a trick. This whole trip is probably for nothing!"

Kabane "Shiki. Are you scared?"

And there he goes, pointing out the obvious. Shiki began yelling at Kabane and i just toned them out and began focusing on the road. Looks like things are back to normal.

*Timeskip*

Thr trip took us half an hour but we finally made it to the village. I asked the locals and they gave us directions to the house. All of them seem to shiver at the mention of it but nevertheless here we are.

All four of us stood in front of the gates to the estates with the village elder standing next to us. Dead trees and rocky terrain cover the left and right side of a singular path.

The village elder then shakily opened the chains of the gates. The man is only in his 60s but his shaking was rattling the chains together. Though I get the feeling that he's doing it out of fear rather than age...

The elder twisted the keys and pulled the chains to the side. He then pulled the gates open and walked away without another word.

I walked in first and looked back. It looks like only Kabane followed me as Akira and Shiki are still standing outside the gates, Akira in particular was shaking.

Inugami "you don't have to join. If you want to, you could stay outside."

Shiki "what? N-no! Im brave! C-come on Akia!"

Shiki also began to shake and stutter as he grabbed Akira's hand and pulled him in despite Akira trying to resist.

Kabane "Akira. It'll be fine."

Normally that would be enough to calm him down, unfortunately Kabane was smiling. Which means: he's lying.

Akira "no! Kabane-kun is smiling! That means it's not gonna be fine!"

Shiki "ugh g-grow up alr-ready!"

Shiki then began pulling Akira again as we all walked deeper into the estates.

We've only walked a few steps in and i've already sensed a difference. The most glaring one is fog. The village outside didn't have any and we don't seem to be nearly high enough the mountains for fog to start showing up on it's own. The narrow path being covered by tall rocks on the side and dead trees makes this even more omonous.

Akira "w-what's that sound?"

Kabane "hm? I don't hear anything."

Akira "that crunching sound!"

It took them a while and then Kabane answered.

Kabane "those are our footsteps. *crunch*"

Kabane stepped on a patch of gravel to remake the sound and he was right, it was just footsteps. But it sounded loud. Louder than usual. That was when i realized that it was deathly quiet here...

No frogs, no birds, no crickets, nothing. Not even a gust of wind. The branches of these dead trees don't move. Nothing here is alive...
