THERE WAS NO place on earth quite as lifeless as a bank, was what Astra Hart had concluded as she walked into the columned and painfully white building, a Chanel bag in one hand and black sunglasses in the other — dress to stand out — Kai had told her, and so she did exactly that. Her heels clacked on the marble floor as she walked with an air of superiority towards the bank teller at the very end of the isle. "Hi." She said, placing her glasses atop of her blow dried hair ( because that nineties look was a must if she was playing rich girl )
"Hi," he echoed, a knowing look crept onto his face as he asked, "Astra Hart, is it?"
"Wow, I must have made quite the first impression." Looking up at the ceiling, she pretended to comb through her memories for the man's name, "I'm sorry, you mustn't have stuck out to me. What was your name again?"
Leading her to an exclusive card members only cubicle, he replied, "Dylan Mack."
"Oh of course!" The blonde exclaimed as Dylan opened the door for her, "how could I ever forget the name for such a handsome face?"
"It's a mystery to us both," his eyes trailed her as she sat down, "but I'm sure you didn't come here to exchange compliments, did you?"
"You're a perceptive one," Astra took a moment to examine Dylan Mack, check he's trustworthy, Kai had told her — as if she was some kind of expert on telling if someone's a liar or not. — but she was particularly good at judging people. He was tall, maybe six two or six three, with big arms and kind eyes — the type of face that didn't quite fit his body. He looked too nice, too honest to be that buff ( because when were ripped men ever nice? )
"Sizing me up, are you?" Dylan asked after a moment too long of silence. "Don't worry, I'm not planning on stealing the money out of your bank, or anything." His new smile had changed her initial perception of him. That smile — malicious, smug and handsome — altered his appearance entirely. He was exactly who Kai said he was. "Though I must admit, I was sizing you up, too."
She leaned closer, her head resting on the palm of her hand, "and? What do you think?"
"No complaints here," he spoke with a kind of certainty that can't be faked, Astra couldn't contain her wide smile.
"I could say the same," she paused. "I hope we get to know each other much better, Dylan. You can trust that I'll be visiting this bank a lot in the future."
His head nodded slowly, "yes, I'm surprised that such an important member has never been here in person before."
"Well, what can I say? I live too luxurious a lifestyle to waste time in such a miserable looking building." The yellow-white hue of the lights was making Astra want to bash her head into the thin walls of the cubicle — god did she want to get out of there with all deliberate speed.
"Wish I had that problem."
Without missing a beat she remarked, "maybe one day you will." The cameras wouldn't be able to pick it up, but Astra noticed the way his eyes narrowed at her. It was as if she was revealing something incriminating instead of making a harmless comment. Test his reactions, Kai had ordered.
His response was cool, unlike his composure. "I sure hope so," before quipping, "I'd love a Chanel outfit, just like yours." He gestured to her pink, white and black suit.
Tilting her head sideways in her palm, she smiled, "thanks, it's vintage. Maybe I'll let you borrow it sometime."
He laughed to himself, she took note that he shook his head slightly when he did so. "Oh no, I wouldn't want to deprive the world of such a sight as you in this suit, Miss Hart."
All of a sudden Astra was happy that she had been forced to meet with the Black Wolves' new recruit. "I'm sure you say that to all the clients"
He shrugged his broad shoulders, "only the pretty ones." He paused, "and maybe the rich ones, too."
Lifting her head back up, their eyes met. "Lucky for you I'm both. Now let's talk business — you know, what I came here for. I'm paying for the pleasure of your company by the minute, after all."
"Of course, what is it you wish to discuss, Miss Hart?" He carefully tilted the screen of desktop, searching her name and bank number.
"I have a large sum to deposit," his face dropped when he saw the number that Kai Walker had recently deposited in her bank account — she had to be worthy of that exclusive card membership, after all — and Astra certainly didn't have that much money. "Two million."
Eyes wide, he nodded cautiously, "I see."
Drumming her nails against the table, she waited for Dylan to regain his composure. "When will the bank manager be in?" Of course, the manager was always in, but the delivery of eight million dollars which would be coming with him, was more of a rare occurrence.
This time, it was Dylan's turn to smile, he'd been working in a dead-end job for long enough. "Well the first Sunday of the year, of course."
"I suppose I'll see you tomorrow, then, Dylan Mack."
