Embrace Me (A Shatter Me FanFiction)

Chapter One

"I have something to tell you."

I look up reluctantly to meet the heavy, intense green-eyed gaze I know all too well, a questioning look on his face paired with something I don't know whether to call fear or confusion.

"Okay," Warner says slowly, apprehension clouding his voice, as he tries to study my face. Trying to guess what on earth I possibly have to talk to him about.

I take a deep breath. Swallow. "Remember that night we had..." I hesitate, "About a month ago?"

I try not to visibly blush as I notice understanding awakening in his eyes. His eyebrows raise so slightly, so fast that I almost don't catch it. He looks like he's thinking for so long that I can't possibly imagine what he'll say next, and I'm almost taken aback when the only word that comes out of his mouth is "Yes."

I can tell he did not expect me to bring this up today. Or ever. I'm not really sure anymore.

Even I had hoped we'd never have to speak about it again.

Warner and I have a complicated relationship, I won't lie. And we haven't spoken to each other since the night in question happened. In fact, we've been purposely avoiding each other. Things have just been so awkward between us that I couldn't bring myself to face him, until something happened. That night. That he doesn't know about.

And that something is the reason I'm sitting here, now, trying so hard to confront him about it without showing my fear. And I'm trying. We're both trying. So hard. And failing.

"Love?" his quiet, hesitant voice snaps me back into reality so quickly that I almost jump. "Are you just here to give me a memory test or are you going to say more?" he asks nervously as he looks down while twirling the jade ring around his pinky finger.

"Y-yes, I'm sorry," I stammer, heat flooding my face all over again. This is harder than I could have anticipated. "About that night..." my voice trails off. I take another deep breath. Let it out.

Here goes nothing.

"I think," I meet his eyes. "I think I'm pregnant."
