ACT 1: Trust Broken

Emily sits on the ground, still shaken because of how fast things transpired earlier. She finds herself feeling both frustrated and helpless, hoping with everything in her that Sonic is alright. While he can handle his own pretty well, if she hadn't intervened with Grounder, he would've been...

A sound in the distance makes the agent jump to her feet in anticipation. She can hear something speeding to her location faster than anything she's ever seen. By the time her smile has time to fully form, Sonic stands in front of her with a cocky smile of his own.

"Miss me?" Sonic asks.

"You were gone for only a minute." She says in a noncaring manner. However, the look of gratitude on her face conflicts with the tone of her voice.

"A minute?" Sonic says. "I thought I would've schooled that clown in thirty seconds or less."

"I'm one of the best agents of the strongest agency in the world, and I couldn't be of any help," Emily says in a disappointed voice.

Sonic looks up at her and sees the self-deprecating look on her face.

"Hey."

Emily looks down at her blue friend who has a wide smile on his face. He holds out his hand.

"Don't say that about yourself." He says. "I think we make a great team!"

Emily shares Sonic's wide smile, and without hesitation, high-fives him.

"You have no idea how long I've been waiting for that," Sonic says right before he winces in slight pain.

With him and Emily both startled, they look down at the object now sticking in the hedgehog's leg. A dart of some kind. Before the two have time to react, troops in the same standard G.U.N gear Emily is currently wearing rush from the bushes, assault rifles in hand.

"Run, Sonic!" Emily shouts.

Instead of running, Sonic falls weakly to the ground. He tries to move his body, but to no avail. He's effectively paralyzed.

"Can't... move...!" He grunts, trying to get up.

Emily looks around in shock, questions swarming through her head.

What should I do? How did they find us? What are they going to do with Sonic?!

A familiar face emerging from the trees catches Emily's attention. The Commander. On his sides are two fellow agents making sure the perimeter is clear of any other possible dangers. The Commander looks at Emily in relief before turning his attention to the blue creature that lays in front of him.

"My God..." He mutters in awe.

"Commander!" Emily blurts out. "You've... found me!"

"Of course, Agent Stonewell." The Commander says with a smile as he turns to her. "I rarely go out in the field, but I had to. After all, I can't afford to lose our best agent."

The Commander once again shifts his gaze to Sonic.

"I guess this is the creature people have mentioned in the reports. What were you doing with it, Stonewell? Was it attacking you?"

"What- no! He saved me!"

"Saved you?"

"Yes! From Robotnik! And some people he sent after us."

The Commander looks at Emily with a face full of confusion. This is a lot for him to take in.

"Robotnik?" He says. "I knew that guy was involved somehow. You said he sent people after you?"
