"Hey, Kris! What's up?" I greeted as I opened the door to see my best friend, Kristine. "Your hair looks cute today! What'd you do to it?" she asked. "Nothing." I stated. "Oh, well it looks cute!" she said in her normally cheerful voice. "Thanks!" I smiled. "So what's up?" I asked.
"My family and I are flying to the Caribbean for a week on a private jet. We wanted to know if you could watch our house? Ya know, like save the mail, feed the cat, stuff like that." She asked. Kristine was my neighbor. I always thought it was really neat that my best friend lived right next door.
"Oh yea sure! The Caribbean? Wow you're going to have so much fun there! I bet it's so beautiful!" I sighed. "Yea! I'm so excited! I wish you could go. But it's like a million dollar trip and we won it from a contest on the radio." she half-heartedly smiled. "Aww no! You can spend time with your family! You'll have loads of fun!" I put my hand on her shoulder. She looked really cute today.
Her dark blonde hair was down and it was beach wavy. Her ice blue eyes were outlined with green as usual and I've always been jealous of her adorable freckles! She was wearing a pink flowy tank top and denim shorts. And she looked like she grew over night! She was always taller than me by about an inch, she's 5'3 and I'm 5'2. Maybe it was because she was wearing thick sandals.
"Thanks, Kay!" she said as she hugged me. "You're a really good friend. Did you know that?" she said softly. I pulled away. "Yea. I'm pretty awesome." I said humorously. She threw her head back in laughter. Her laugh is the cutest laugh ever and it's so contagious! So of course I had to laugh too.

I walked over to Kristine's house to pick up her mail and feed her cat, Tigger. Their house was so nice, I just had to watch TV on their huge flat screen. As soon as I clicked on the TV, the news caught my attention. It showed a picture of a plane crash. The title at the bottom said. "Flight to Caribbean crashes in Florida!"
A pang of worry hit my chest as I stared at the TV. Kris was flying there, I thought. No. It couldn't have been her. The news reporter interrupted my thoughts.
"A private jet flying to the Caribbean crashed in Orlando, Florida. The plane engine seemed to have failed and the jet crashed head on into the ground! The jet carried a family of 4. Anne, Mark, Jordan, and Kristine Wilson. They all died."
I paused right there. "Anne, Mark, Jordan, and Kristine Wilson." It was her.
I screamed. I started bawling. I ran out of her house and into mine. "Mom!! Dad!!" I screamed as they came rushing towards me.
"You're a really good friend. Did you know that?"
6 months later...
I was in my room on my bed. I was practicing the guitar and singing. "But that was when I ruled the world..." I finished singing Viva La Vida by Coldplay. My 8 year old brother Parker always thought I was a beautiful singer, but I was never satisfied with myself.
I turned around and looked out my window. I could see through the window straight across mine into Kristine's house. I remembered all the times we stayed up until 2 in the morning just talking and throwing notes to each other. A tear slid down my cheek.
I was interrupted by the sound of a truck. I looked to the front of the house. It was a moving truck! Someone was moving into Kristine's house?! How could they sell it after what happened?!
I ran downstairs and went into the living room where my dad was watching football. Our team is the San Francisco 49ers. My dad is originally from San Fran, but he came to Texas after he met my mom.
