Enemies till sundown

Chapter 1: The beginning

The sun was shining bright on this beautiful summer day in the kingdom of Lunaria, the perfect day like all days. nothing ever seems to be out of place for me, but hey isn't that the life of a princes? I thought as I stepped inside the palace garden. 

"took you long enough" Taehyung said as soon as he spotted me walking towards my friends. Every morning we meet up in the garden for my magic studies with Dami and Tae. Magic is a big part of my culture so it's important I'm the best i could possibly be. "I was looking for my protective crystal Handong gave to me, I couldn't find it anywhere," I answered as I joined them on the training mat. Dami rolled her eyes at my response, she doesn't really believe in superstition like that. "Okay, I already made taehyung do his laps and warm up spells. How about you try fighting him without your usual warm up. In most situations you're not going to have a warm up anyways" Dami said slightly annoyed. She hates people that are late, but she luckily lets it slide with me.

 Tae smirked at me as he readied his first spel. I instantly react by hooking his leg and making him fall to the ground. "AH! What was that for? i thought we were having a magic fight" Tae said while trying to get up from the mat. I had been friends with him since childhood. His grandpa was the royal wizard and Taehyung wanted to follow in his footsteps. Dami gave him a hand and pulled him up "its fair though, i didn't specify that y/n couldn't so yeah. you gotta work on your reflexes boy" Tae scratched his neck, he looked a bit down today. "Dont think youre off the hook your highness" Dami said while turning to me. she only uses your highness if she's not satisfied with my work. Dami is a very talented wizard and still so young. My dad likes to hire people to work in the palace that are my age so I don't have to leave the palace to have friends. "you should use your magic, don't be so insecure about your powers". Ah this again, she always says that. I love magic but I'm just not that great at it, I feel like I have zero control and that scares me.

"Hey loves" we heard from behind. I turned around with a big smile, it was my best friend Handong. "come to join us in practice?" Dami asked, surprised. Handong is very bussie because she's gonna be my royal adviseur one day and is already doing a lot of work for my father. Oh and not to forget she's studying healing magic, she really is like a sister to me. "I can't today, but y/n your father needs you. He has some big news he needs to share". As a princess, hearing those words is always unsettling. All kinds of things could be meant by it, a plot against the throne, an arranged marriage, the country going bankrupt, a war. It could mean anything. i looked at taehyung a little worried, he shared the same expression. "Do you know what it is?" Dami asked bluntly. "Not really, but I think it has to do with the kingdom of Solaris, your father received a letter from them. He didn't speak of it after reading it" Handong answers. A letter from Solaris? That can only mean trouble, our countrys have been hating each other since anyone can remember. "Okay, we should go together then. No time to waste, this might be very serious". I said after thinking for a while.

We walked in silence through the pretty halls of the palace, everyone knew this was gonna be bad news. We normally chat a lot. This felt a little unsettling. Upon arriving at the big silver and gold decorated doors of the throne room, I took a deep breath before opening the doors.

"Father, you asked to see me, you had some big news" I said firmly to show him I'm very serious. He sometimes forgets that I was born to lead and sees me as a baby. "y/n my lovely daughter! you're finally here" he stood up from his throne with a big smile and walked up to us. This wasn't what I was expecting tbh. "I have the best news we could wish for, Solaris has reached out to us to make peace!" i looked over to my friends, i was so confused, was this real? "their crown prince reached out himself wanting to start a new era with you..."

I stopped my father as soon as he said that. "with me?! no i'm not doing this, you can not put me into an arranged marriage! Father, you promised me when I was a child, I'm not taking this! I am my own woman and I decide what I do and who I marry!" I answered with my head held high. I will not stand and watch as my freedom is going up in smoke. "Sir with all do respect you cant let her marry someone from Solaris" Taehyung protested, i was relieved he had my back in this. My father frowned and said calmly "why would you think i would force you to marry him? he's the enemy, i'm not making my daughter suffer". I tilted my head, this was so confusing. "I care for you too much to do that sweetie, all he proposed was to learn about each other's cultures in a diplomatic visit. This prince is done with hating each other and thinks a friendship would be better for both our economies" my father explained. "Your majesty, is it a smart idea to make a diplomatic visit to Solaris? this could be a ruse to kill the royal family and let Lunaria fall" Handong proposed worried. "Nonsense, that's why I invited him to stay here, the new generation will turn over a new leaf. Now go hang out with your friends y/n, i need to make preparations for his visit" my dad was so cheerful and optimistic about this. Why do I feel like this is gonna turn out to be terrible?

Crown prince of Solaris P.O.V.

What a dreadful early morning this was, a carriage ride of hours on lots and lots of rocky rhodes. The dreadfully heavy weight of the traditional jacket was having an impact on my mood, bringing it down by the minute. And all I wanted to do was peachfully read my book. "this is ridiculous, i don't understand why i have to come with you brother" i rolled my eyes and just ignored my little brother, he is too foolish to understand the seriousness of this trip. "Agreed, I did not have to come here, I was doing perfectly fine in Solaris" answered my best friend Yoongi. I looked up from my book to look at him. He was looking stressed out of the window straight into the lost lands. "Look I don't wanna be behind enemy lines alone and this is a very important mission" I answered while closing my book. "I can see, considering you wanna risk going into the lost lands just to get there faster!" Yoongi looked pissed, understandable really. "Are you scared? ha! mister i'm so mysterious and dark, is scared of the lost lands!" Yoongi shot a look at my little brother, ah how great he's angry now. "Jimin stop it, the lost lands are created by magic, the world's greatest enemy. You should be scared of them too" I said with a smirk. "if magic is the world's greatest enemy then why are we making peace with Lunaria, the kingdom of magic? I thought you were smart Namjoon?" I laughed at his question. Jimin is so not involved in politics.

 "We're not there to make peace you idiot," Yoongi answered while crossing his arms. "No we're not, we're here for something much, much bigger" I said looking out the window with a big smirk already seeing the towers of the kingdom Lunaria.
