Soul mates are uncommon to find,
but once they do,
nothing will be able to keep them away.NYLAH LENORE
"I have no further questions."
I sat in defeat knowing they weren't going to believe me.
"Beyond a reasonable doubt Nylah, you are guilty for the 1st degree murder of your step father. I hereby sentence you to life in prison." He slammed his gavel down.
My heart dropped.
"Thank you, Jury, for your service today. Court is adjourned"
My mom cheered along with my so-called family.
I only murdered him in self defense, he was going to kill me if I didn't.
I tried to explain it numerous times but my mom wouldn't listen.
She was only interested in that idiotic drunk who abused her.
My eyes watered and my lawyer rubbed my back with a sympathetic look.
"I am aware of your innocence. I'll take every step I can to get you out, all right?"
Despite knowing that I would rot in a cell for the rest of my life, I nodded.
I accepted my fate once the police dragged me away in handcuffs.
I cried as soon as they placed me in my cell.
Finally, the years and years of pain were allowed to surface.
"You good, girl?" My cellmate asked.
"N-no." I murmured mid cry.
She came over and sat down on my bed.
She frowned.
"I understand that being locked up isn't a walk in the park, but crying won't make things better. I tried, trust me," she assured.
"I shouldn't be in here," I said.
"I was accused of killing my stepdad, but it was self-defense. Otherwise, he would have killed me," I admitted.
She listened attentively.
"Other than my grandma, none of my family members really liked me, so it makes sense that they said that I killed him to be spiteful" Again, tears formed in my eyes.
and whispered, "Damn, I'm so sorry." She whispered quietly as she drew me into an hug.
I started to cry.
Now my entire life is ruined.
This stupid situation ruined my reputation. My job fired me on the spot once they figured out what happened.
Hopefully my boyfriend will come to visit me at least.
He's the only person I have now.
"Everything will be okay girl. You're welcome to sit with me and my friends when the lunch bell approaches. I'm Tatiana, by the way," she replied with a smile.
