The moment I walked into the old fashioned bar, my ears were met with beautiful low jazz music.
"Over here" I looked to see Pete sitting in the far corner. I gave him a friendly smile as I made my way towards him.
"What a day" I said as we hugged "this place is amazing" I commented as I sat down on the chair beside him.
"This is my favorite place to come to just relax" he looked around "nobody here is bothered enough to listen to what you're saying, that's why this was the first place that came to my mind when you said to talk outside of work". After he said that, I looked around to in fact see everyone minding their own business.
"So what did you have to tell me" I asked and all he done was call one of the workers on the bar over.
"Get her one of these" he motioned his glass to him. He nodded and walked away to start making the drink.
"Pete I'm not really in the mood to" he cut me off before I could finish my full sentence.
"Trust me" he paused "you're going to need it".
The drink was placed in front of me. Grabbing it abruptly I took a sip of it, only for it to burn the back of my throat.
"What is this" I squinted my eyes.
"It's one of my most richest drinks you'll have, that there is a real drink" he said looking at my glass.
"Whatever you have to say better be good" I took another sip, hissing at the taste.
"Before I get into this, I just want you to have an open mind to what I am saying" I rolled my eyes at him.
"Pete you're dragging this out long enough" I laughed "just tell me already".
"It's about the" he paused bringing his head closer to me "President" I instantly got a shiver.
I really hope he doesn't know.
I cleared my throat "what about her" I furrowed my eyebrows at her.
"She is not who she seems to be" I tilted my head slightly relived that he didn't mention me.
I chuckled "what do you mean".
He shook his head slightly "it could be nothing that's why I want to say it to you, especially because you're always around her". He thought for a moment "I done some digging and she has a past" he scoffed.
"Okay come on detective" I was curious and he was just taking too long to tell me.
He laughed "okay, okay" he took some of his drink "to us" he motioned to me and him "the public, she's perfect, has the kind look, seems smart. All and all, she looks like she knows what she's doing and that she actually cares" I nodded my head.
"What if I told you that our perfect President, isn't perfect at all. I remember some wacko on the street saying all of this and I laughed at him, thinking he was just against her because she's a woman" he shrugged his shoulders "but then I got curious" he pointed to himself "so I had to pay a detective to find some stuff out".
He leaned in closer "more than two people have restraining orders on her, she's been bailed out of jail twice and she was supposed to go to a psychiatric hospital but then all of a sudden she's running for President and none of this has surfaced in the media" he squinted his eyes. "I'm in no way against her, I voted for her, hell I even work for her. It's the people that are covering for her that I'm curious about" he shook his head.
"I fear that something could just change, President Grande just seems too good to be true" he took a sip of his drink. While he did I thought, I thought about how everything that he just said didn't shock me at all. Ariana surprises me daily. Am I even the first person she's cheated on her husband with and, I find it shocking how she's willing to ruin her reputation all because of me. Maybe the people that covered all that for her could cover me up for her.
I just worry what way they would cover me up.
"Is there more" I asked making me look at me "like anything else you found out" he shook his head.
"One day this guy is finding all of this out for me, the next he stops returning my calls and texts so, I go by his place to find everything gone. It was as if he never existed".
I couldn't help but gulp at his words.
I threw my keys on my kitchen counter when I got inside. I instantly froze at the sight of a dinner table set out on my table along with candles.
The worried feeling left me the second I saw Madison come into view. She turned around and jumped when she saw me.
"You nearly killed me" she held her chest.
"I can say the same for you, making me think a robber came into my home and made me food" I chuckled before walking up to her and kissing her.
My real fear was it being Ariana the one who made the food.
"What's all this for" I kissed her cheek "it's amazing".
"Well" she pulled out my chair for me and I thanked her "you've just been working so hard lately and I thought I should just surprise you". She smiled.
She sat across from me and I placed my hand out on top of hers.
"Madison" she giggled.
"Yes Y/n".
"Thank you so much" I squeezed her hand tightly.
I couldn't help but hold onto Madison tighter tonight. I felt scared. Scared of what Ariana could do to me. I hate myself for getting involved with her. I wish I never slept with her that night.
I could hear her threats of ruining my life in my ears. What was I thinking. I'm so mad at myself but then again, I can't help the feeling I get when I'm around her. I looked down at Madison sleeping and I felt guilty. I'm cheating on the person who I genuinely thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. Now I feel that I shouldn't even get that kind of privilege.
"I'm sorry Madison" I whispered before closing my eyes.
"It is my honor to finally open up this facility that will not only help our young children with coping with their mental health but give them a better understanding of it all together" Ariana said at she cut the red ribbon with a bunch of cameras flashing as she smiled her million dollar smile.
My gaze shifted to Pete to see him already looking at me. I broke our gaze when Kika started talking to me.
"Isn't she just wonderful" I was quick to agree with her.
I find it fascinating how a lot of people in the office are so amazed by her, I can only imagine some of the public.
Frank now stood beside Ariana as they both smiled for the cameras. In a quick second both mine and Ariana's gaze met each other's, like mine and Pete's did a moment ago. She held a look in her eye that I couldn't quite describe.
Why did it feel like she knew what Pete told me.
