Chapter 1- How It All Began

(Nicole's P.o.v.) <--Emily's mom

I had finally had enough. I had to get my daughter out of this miserable place. I can't handle seeing her going through all this abuse from her father. So now I'm running. I don't know where but I'm taking Emily with me and were going to live a good life, away from her drunken, abusive father.

It all started 1 year ago. I had gotten pregnant with Stevens (Emily's father) baby. When I told him I was pregnant he seemed on board with it. Until about 3 years after she was born. He started drinking every night, being more distant from us. I couldn't handle anymore so I confronted him about it and he flipped. He started abusing us. Hitting us every day and night. I can't stand to see her go through this every day. I just have to get her out of here so she can have a real life.

I have decided today is the day that I'm going to pack up our stuff and leave. I don't know where but we will find somewhere. I can't go to my parents or my sisters, they all hate me. I guess I will have to figure out something. Once I had all our stuff packed I packed up Stevens car (he was at the bar and his buddy picked him up). I put Emily in the car and we left... for good....

I have been driving for 4 hours and now were in some place called Holmes chapel I think. but I decided we would stop here. I don't know why but this place just looked promising. We stopped at a hotel and I quickly checked us in and got our stuff from the car. As soon as we got in there we both fell asleep.

We woke up the next morning and went out to get breakfast. Emily and I just sat there and chatted. After that we went back to the hotel and I started looking for a day care for Emily since I needed to find a job. I searched for hours while Emily just played and watched TV. I finally found something that looks safe and affordable. I called and made an appointment to go check it out at 8 am. For the rest of the day we stayed in the hotel and ordered food while I looked for a job and Emily played around the hotel room.

The next day Emily and I woke up at 7 ate breakfast and got ready for the day care. When we got there I went to the office with Emily and asked about an appointment at 8 am and they said to go to the last room on the left. The door was open and then was a women sitting behind a desk in a chair, writing things down on paper. I said "hello?" I asked. She looked up and jumped out of her chair and rushed over to me and hugged me. "Oh my God Nicole its so nice to finally meet you after all these years." I just looked at her like she was crazy because I had no Idea who this women was. "Oh my God I'm so sorry. You must think I'm crazy. Please do sit. Let me explain who I am. Oh and Emily can go play with the other kids." She said to me in one breath. She sent Emily away and we sat down. "Well I'm Anne, I'm an old friend of steves. We go way back. He has also told me lots about you. I know what has happened this past year and I'm terribly sorry he has been this way. But I am here to help and I'm sorry I'm being so forward with you. I know you just meet me but trust me I know how Steve can get and I just want to help you get back on your feet." I just sat there trying to process what she just said "So you knew Steve? Was he always like this? how did you know it was even me coming? what do I do? did he tell you I left? is he gonna come find us?" by now I was sobing uncontrollably and she came and comfortated me in a hug. "sweetheart calm down your never gonna see the awful man again. Your coming to stay with me till you get back on your feet. okay?" I nodded. I don't know why but i strangely trusted her.

(Emily's P.o.v)

When I got toke out of the room from my mom I just stood there and stared at my mom crying. I just wanted to hug her. Then a cute boy came over to me and said

"Hi your pretty, I'm Harry. What's your name?"
