Hello my scribbles!
Before we get into the story I want to say I know it's a bit shorter than my usual stuff. That's because I want to see what people like most. If you guys want shorter stories or longer ones.
It would help me a lot if you write in the comments what you prefer, these shorter chapters or longer ones. Or do you just not care. I really hope that that way, I can figure out what people like and adjust my stories to that.
With that out of the way, let's get into the story, shall we?

'Please come in now.' the teacher's voice echo's through the classroom, with the silent students waiting for my entrance. I put my brown hair behind my ear and walk inside, looking around the class. No longer stuck with only a view of the teacher, I see that my future classmates are all looking at me. Quickly adverting my eyes, I feel their gazes burning in my skin. I didn't expect this much attention, is this how schools work here?
'Introduce yourself, please.' the elder woman says with a kind smile. She sits down behind her desk, leaving me to please these strangers.'Well, uhm.' I try to find my words, the previous times it didn't go like this. The previous teachers would always ask me questions, or at least tell me what to say. But here, I guess it was my free call?
Quickly scrambling my words together, I find something that works. 'I am Kate, Kate Pleasant. I come originally from New York but my parents move a lot. And, well, I like video games and going out with my friends.'
Next to me, I hear a small scoff. The piercing gaze of my teacher meets mine as I look at her. She seems disappointed, but what did I do wrong?
'I think that's enough miss Pleasant. Please sit down and let's start our lesson.'
The students focus all at once on the teacher, as I look at her worried. I then take the empty seat in the back, looking at the teacher. Trying to focus, but hard under the weird vibe that is in this classroom.During the lesson, it seems as all the students do is just following the teacher's orders. No chatter, no rebellious murmurs, nothing. Just, silence. As the bell goes, all of the students get up and pack their stuff. Leaving the classroom. Leaving me, alone with that teacher.
I quickly hurry to the door. 'Miss Pleasant?' the teacher calls out. 'Please stay for a moment, I would like to speak with you.' she says as she looks at me.
I gulp but nod, not wanting to be rude. 'What do you need, Miss?' My voice comes out squeaky, like a little mouse in front of a cat.
'You seem to not be completely fitting in with our students.' she starts, getting straight to the point. 'But, don't worry. We do have a solution for that. A one on one course with a professional counsellor, who will help you fit right in.'
Sweat runs down my back, though my parents aren't poor they don't have the money to spend on this. 'I, don't think I can afford it. And I will be fine, but thanks.'
'Don't worry about the payment, it's a free service we offer here at this school.' Reaching into her drawer, she grabs a disk. It seems to be a cd. 'Watch this at home when you get the time, and you can go to the councillor tomorrow if you decided to do it either way.'
As the teacher pushes the disk in my hand, she has a bright smile on her face. 'I will see you tomorrow in class!'In my room, I look at the weird cd. Should I watch it, I don't need counselling do I? I am completely normal, completely sane. Why would anyone even think I need counselling. But, curiosity and politeness urge me to check it out anyway.
Opening the files onto it, there is only one. A video, 45 minutes long. What type of instruction video is so long? I, guess I can let it play in the background? My parents aren't home anyway, there is no harm in it. Starting up the video, my monitor turns black for a moment. As it starts up again, a black and white spiral is on display. I raise a brow. 'What type of joke is this?' I mutter to myself, as I continue to look at it.
A voice comes from my speakers, it's quite gentle and soothing. 'Hello, I am glad to see you are watching this instruction video. Please relax and take your time, and I will explain everything to you.'
I sit in my chair, relaxing a little. It's a 45-minute long video, might as well get comfy while I watch it, right?
'Very well, just watch the spiral as I explain everything to you.' I focus my gaze on the spiral on the screen, going along for now. What's the harm in it?
'This program is used to make sure that students fit in perfectly, as well as produce the best grades that they can get. They are pushed to do the very best, but at the same time are given a lot of time to relax. Something you might also like to do right now?'
It's true, after that long school day I would love to relax a little and let myself slump in my chair a little. It's nice. I really need this, today was tough. And listening to that voice and watching the spiral is easy, I can just let it flow over me.'And focus on my words and the spiral only now.' The words snap me back to attention, and I sharpen my gaze. In the spiral, words seem to be flashing. Quick, and sharp. But I can't recognize them, I don't know what they are saying.
'Don't worry about the words, just watch it happen and relax for me.' the voice says. 'Let them flood over you, reach your mind. In the meantime, relax and let yourself go. Watch the spiral and listen, it's easy to listen isn't it?'
I nod, it's true. It's easy to listen to this recording. Wait, it's a recording, why did I nod? What's going on? I try to look away from the screen, but it feels like my eyes are glued to it. Why can't I look away, I don't like this! Something is wrong.
My breathing becomes short and sharp, as my mind fills with panic.
'Relax.' The voice orders. 'Don't resist, it's going to be alright. You just need to relax and let go. Don't worry, you like watching the spiral, don't you?'
I, do. But that doesn't make it any better that I can't look away.
'You like watching the spiral and want to watch more. You want to listen to this recording more. It's just so relaxing.'
Something about the way the voice says it, makes me slump a little into my chair again. I love watching the spiral, it's relaxing. I like listening to the voice, it's calming my mind.
'That's good, just relax and watch the spiral. You can feel your mind just slowly shutting off. Good students don't think. They absorb.'
My mind, it feels like it's. What's the word? Draining? It's so hard to think about it, it's so hard to think about anything. The spiral is so pretty.'Now, shut off your mind. Be a good obedient student, and listen to this recording. You need the help. After all, you want this. You want to be helped and you want to be a good student.'
I nod, smiling a little. I want to be a good student.
'Good students listen to their teachers, good students follow the counselling. So be a good student, and relax and listen to this video. No more thinking.'
My mind goes blank, and I feel a little bit of drool dripping down my cheek. Looking at the spiral, smiling happily. I'm being a good student. The next day, I walk up to the counsellor's door. It's before school hours, and I want to get to counselling. I hope that they still want me, I was a bad student yesterday.
A shiver of discomfort goes through me as I realize the severity of what I have done. Luckily that video opened my eyes. And hopefully, they will forgive me and give me a chance to become a good student.
I reach out my arm and knock on the door. I am being a good student by following my programming.
