*Emily's POV*

"I didn't expect to see anybody else down here so early," Rossi says.

It's around 5:30 in the morning and I have been sitting in the dining area of the hotel for the last hour. I couldn't sleep, what a surprise. I don't know why, but I was hoping that (Y/N) would change her mind, and show up at my door, but that never happened.

"Me either," I say. I watch as Rossi moves over to the coffee pot that they have sitting on the counter.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," I say as he starts to pick it up and pour it into his cup. I hold up the barely touched coffee that I had gotten out of that coffee machine thirty minutes ago. "I couldn't even finish it." He nods at me and puts the pot back down.

He moves over to me and sits in the chair across the table from mine.

"If I am not mistaken, I saw a coffee shop on the way here that advertised they opened early," he holds out his hand for me to take. "Would you like to join me?"

"Why did you really invite me here Rossi?" I ask as we sit in the nearly deserted coffee shop.

"Why do I need a reason?" Rossi asks as he takes a sip of his coffee.

"Because I know you," I say with a short laugh, and he smiles at me before his face turns serious.

"How are things with you and (Y/N)?" My face falls, and I let out a sigh.

"Garcia told you?" I ask.

"Actually, no," he says as he places his cup down in front of him and leans towards me. "I was up last night and decided to go for a walk when I noticed someone who looked a lot like you walking out of her hotel room."

"It wasn't like that," I say with a shake of my head.

"Oh, I know," he says as he holds a hand up. "I've had a few hotel rendezvous and I usually look a lot happier than you did."

"Well, I can tell you a rendezvous is not really what happened," I say. As I think back on last night all of the emotions come flooding back

"Do you want to tell me what did happen?" Rossi asks in a gentle voice.

I pause for a second, thinking about whether or not I want to tell him the truth, but Rossi has always been like a father figure to the team.

"I went to her room, just to talk. But then she said she couldn't sleep so I offered to help her like last time..."

"Last time?" He questions in a knowing voice, and I roll my eyes.

"After the last case, the one where Hotch sent her in to talk to the Unsub, she was having a hard time so I invited her to spend the night at my apartment."

"And you helped her sleep?" He raises his eyebrows and takes a long sip of his coffee.

"Don't look at me like that," I say as I lean back in my chair.

"I'm not looking at you in any kind of way," he says with a shrug. "I just know (Y/N) and she isn't one to let people in very easily. She is a very happy and wonderful girl, but it's not hard to tell she uses that to hide the vulnerable parts she doesn't want anybody to see. You must be special to her."

I feel a pang in my chest as he says those words.

"Well, I thought I was because the next morning..." I take a deep breath and blink back the few tears that had formed in the back of my eyes. "I kissed her, and she kissed me back, and I thought things were going great."
