My eyes are blinded to the outside, and the sounds that the street made 10 minutes ago have died. Only my quiet breath and the tun, tun of my heartbeat are able to be heard.
In this situation, I should have already made peace with the fact that this is happening, however months of knowing and preparation can't beat the adrenaline my body is feeling and the anxiety my mind has been running with for the past 15 hours. Waiting, for the moment I was going to be snatched from any place I could be in, only to be thrown into a game to save my life.
You see, it's late at night when young people get their truth or dare date message, not everyone gets it at the same age though. The system may take as reference that your truths are not enough if by 18 years old, you haven't received the message. However that doesn't mean you won't get it, it will just take more time. I got mine at 23 years of living, with a very late date, and that made people around me think I had less chances to survive.
"How can a 23 year old out live an 18 year old? That kid will die for sure!"
Liberty City is known for this ritual, every year young people get a date designed for the year to have the massive truth or dare game, where only the ones who conquer their truths will survive, literally.
And that takes me back to the situation in question. Now, anyone can accept their truths or take a dare that matches them, surely I would have if I had received this message a year ago. However, after the sudden disappearance of Silas a few months ago, and the things I know now, there is no way I can reveal the truths and think that even if I survive the game, I won't be dead within a day or two in the city.
My only escape is to fool this game, or run away when I get the chance, leaving everything behind me. The rope is removed from my eyes, and in front of me there is a table, with a bowl filled with papers. It's quite rustic, not what I imagined this would be like. And on the other side, a person looking at me, or I think it is because the mask this person has hides them from my eyes.
"Finally the last introduction of the night!" A voice sounds in echo through the whole space. "Our oldest this year, our dearest Zora." The place is empty but I can hear cheering from outsiders. I hold my breath for a moment, waiting and anticipating, "Now dear Zora, tell me..." A guard enters the room. "Are you ready to begin?" and a screen appears behind the masked person, where I can see a man looking at me with big eyes and a cat-like smile.
