The prophecy" Shadowsky meowed when he stopped in the trees, so far that the others couldn't possibly hear him. Snowstar blinked and let the thought process through her. "There is one cat I'm allowed to tell you" Shadowsky went on, not waiting on her answer. Snowstar stared in astonishment "Who?"

Shadowsky took a deep breath in. "It will be your next second in charge, cat" he mewed.

Foxstorm? She thought. Obviously shadowsky read her mind "yes, it's who you think it is" Snowstar looked up worryingly at shadowsky. "Are his powers good?" she paused remembering Hollowflame's talents that went to evil. "Or bad?" she added.

"It depends on how the rest of his journey goes" Shadowsky blinked, "I think you're forgetting something". It all snapped back to snowstar in a second. She was supposed to make a new deputy by tonight. Snowstar snapped her eyes open as the sun almost was down. She stood up and stretched then shook the moss off her body. She thought about who will be the deputy. Foxstorm will be deputy. Snowstar glanced at the clearing and the cats were busily preparing for the ceremony. Then she looked at shadowpelt. He would need an apprentice. Soon. not now, but soon.

The sun had fully gone down. And the half-slitted moonlit the camp. Snowstar padded out to high ledge and sat down. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather below high ledge." Apprentices, warriors gathered below high ledge staring at their leader. Kits and mothers watched from the nursery. Shadowpelt walked up and sat beneath snowstar. On a lower ledge. " I say these words before, so that the spirit of our last deputy Dovefrost may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of fireclan is Foxstorm '' Snowstar announced. Murmurs of agreement rose from the crowd and foxstorm clamoured up the stones. "FOXSTORM! Foxstorm, foxstorm" his name rang around the clearing. Cats cheered him for the new position and celebrated. Pinetail started the cheering of his best friend's serious position. Snowstar gazed at Foxstorm. His eyes were like shining jewels in the night, she nodded. And he turned to Snowstar and nodded, unable to hide his excitement. Snowstar padded to her den and laid down. Foxstorm padded in "Snowstar?" he called into the den. "Yes,'' Snowstar meowed. "Where do I sleep now that I'm the deputy?" he asked. Snowstar remembered Dovefrost's old den. "Come" she meowed and pushed the vines out of the den entrance. Foxstorm padded behind snowstar. She led him to a small tunnel only big enough for a badger to fit into. Snowstar crawled through the hole, it led into a huge den. Its rock walls expanded underground. An old nest where Dovefrost used to sleep was still there. Foxstorm poked out of the badger hole and padded to Snowstars side. "This is your den" she meowed to foxstorm. He ran in and settled into the bed. "I'll ask the apprentices to get you new bedding tomorrow morning" Snowstar meowed over her shoulder before ducking into the tunnel. She reached the end of the tunnel and shook the dirt off her pelt. She bounded to her own den. The soft moss soothed her aching muscles.

She drifted into sleep.

Dawn swept through the camp. And with dawn warmth, brought prey rummaging around. The camp bustled busily. Fox Storm was nowhere to be seen. Snowstar padded to fox storm's new den. She crawled under and through the badger hole. She didn't want to wake him. so she didn't say anything. She gazed at his nest. Fox Storm lay there curled in a ball, his body quietly lifted up and down from his breathing. Snowstar knew he would have to begin his deputy duties as soon as possible. "Fox Storm" she whispered then padded to his side when he didn't wake up. She nudged him with her nose "wake up" she meowed softly. Foxstorm rolled over and looked at snowstar shocked. "Oh sorry, I forgot I hadn't seen the sun come up yet" Foxstorm mewed and arched his back in a stretch. He began grooming his pelt. "But I'll be out to start my duties in a bit" Foxstorm added between licks. Snowstar nodded and dove into the badger hole crawling her way through the hole. The grass beneath her toes was wet with dew from the morning. The camp was still bustling but the patrol wasn't out yet. Snowstar padded to the apprentice den, she saw Foxstorm emerge and snowstar reached the apprentice den. "Icepaw, go grab Orangepaw. You two can clean out Foxstorms new den bedding, and replace it with fresh moss and heather" Icepaw sighed then slowly padded to the apprentice's den.

The dim shafts of moonlight lit the camp, it was almost half-moon now. Shadowpelt would soon head off to moonpool. The cold breeze ruffled Snowstars fur. She padded out of the den her tail lashing. "I'll return soon, I'll tell you the news," Snowstar meowed. She padded out of the hollow. She padded through the trees farther and farther away from the camp she was heading to moonstone. An ancient cave that tunnelled deep underground but Snowstar knew the way in. she followed the trail she had followed last quarter moon. She found the entrance. It was pitch black and it shot straight down for the first part of the tunnel. Snowtstar breathed then lowered herself into the tunnel. Its darkness swallowed her.

Snowstar weaved her way through the cave, its holes to fit through narrowed then sometimes got big enough to hold a dog. She followed the tunnel deeper into the earthy ground and it got colder. Much colder.

At last, the glittering moonstone shone at the end of the weaving tunnels. The walls expanded the gap in the roof let the moonlight seep into the cave. Snowstar walked over to the moonstone. She laid her head against it.
