"The Great War. Many times, Humans and Monsters had been in conflict. But never ever had it been so horrible. The recent technology advances and usage of new kinds of weaponry had led this war to be the most destructive in all of History with a great H. Monsters could have won, but one day, their ability to use magic disappeared without any explanation. Same thing happened to any human magician.
After this, Humans reconstructed their society through continents as they could, while monsters, without the magic they had always been relying on, were separated, scattered across the globe, a group unable to join another. So those groups started living and growing independently, with their own opinions, cultures, and ways to compensate the loss of all magic. One of those groups was led by the Dreemur Family. They led it to a big island in Eastern Europe, clean of any human presence.
Over time, Ebott Island, as it was named by Sysyphus Dreemur, became the capital of Monsterkind. Some said it was because of the generosity of their leader, others said it was due to no human interference. Still, there was hope of a future with no such thing as the Great War, who would soon celebrate its ending a century ago, happening again. That's what we thought at the time."
The professor stopped writing on the huge board that was almost full of various formulas and lessons, grabbed the brush and started erasing it all.
"Now, let me tell you the story you're all here for. The tragic story of how we had to face a second Great War, one century after the first."
