Thalia had apologised over and over about the thing that had happened during class. I said that I had forgave her but she didn't listen. We sat under a pale, birch tree and ate our lunch silently.

"Hey Chloe, are you free this afternoon? After school?" I pursed my lips and nodded stiffly. I would just had to tell my father about this. Thalia looked relieved and continued chewing thoughtfully on her Egg & Salad sandwich. Suddenly she frowned and shifted to look at me.

"No offence but are you wearing contacts or are they your natural eye colour?" Ouch. I shook my head and explained that they were my natural eye colour. After lunch, My eyes burnt with tears that didn't flow down thankfully. But I was pretty sure that Thalia had noticed the flash of hurt in my eyes because she looked sympathetic while I explained. I shoved my lunchbox in my locker and Somebody rapped me on the shoulder. I swivelled to see the pretty blonde girl sneering at me.

"Hello Freak," I bit my lip and the tears threatened to fall, "Are you wearing contacts? Because they look soooo fake. If they're not, then you're one of the freaks." She sashayed away with her and her friends and I sank to the floor, hurt washing through me. Why. Why did I have to have an unnatural eye colour? This wasn't fair.

"It's Chloe right? Are you ok?" An unfamiliar male voice startled me. I looked up to see into ice-blue eyes. He was the boy who sat next to me in class when I first came in.

"Uhh y-yeah. Val-Vincent right?" His mouth quirked upwards and his eyes glinted with amusement.

"No Chloe. My name is Valentine not Vincent." He smirked at my clumsiness and a wave of irritation washed over me. I stood up, brushed my jeans and pursed my lips. He had an Irish lilt and his eyes sparkled mischievously.

"Valentine." Thalia said coldly, in a formal manner. Valentine spun on his heel to face her.

"Thalia. What are you doing here?" His voice just as cold as ice and they glared each other frostily until Thalia turned to me, her expression weary.

"Come on Chloe. We're going to be late." She tugged on my hand, clearly not wanting to be near Valentine. I tore my eyes off of him and we hurried down the hall to science. Thalia sat rigidly, alert for the rest of the day.
