You still couldn't believe what had happened over the past 48 hours.
One moment you were weeding the garden and the next you received a telegram that had changed your whole life.Your dear mother, Caroline had been hospitalized about two weeks ago, having fallen ill with scarlet fever after returning from a long and excruciating trip. Your mother would often go on long trips to visit your father who was working in the coal mines. She would tailor his clothing and return it to him every 5 weeks and then she'd be away for a few days.
You never really had a good relationship with your father. When you were born he wasn't around, when you were growing he wasn't around. He wasn't around to teach you how to do anything or to protect you from the world. Then when you came out to your parents after just turning 19 he completely disowned you. He frowned upon you and your choices. Surprisingly enough you've never shed a single tear for the bitter old man. He chose to ruin the relationship, not you.
You were lucky to have your mother. She supported you unconditionally and she loved you more than anything in the world. That's why she would go see your father, not only because she loved him in her own special way but also because he would send back the money. She used the money to buy you new dresses or bows for your hair. She'd buy you your favourite desserts with strawberry lemonade.
On Wednesday's however, you were home alone. You liked being alone but not for long. Your mother would visit her best friend Eudoria Holmes every Wednesday. As a little girl, you were allowed to go with and if you were lucky enough you'd get to explore the landscape but after Mr Holmes passed away Eudoria stopped visiting your mother and you stopped going to her house. You supposed it was out of respect but you didn't think about it until right now.
You can't remember the last time you thought of Eudoria or even the last time you saw her.
From what you can remember she had the most beautiful brown hair and a stunning pair of chocolate eyes. She was short but the way she carried herself made her come across as taller. She had a way of speaking that made every little word seem like poetry.You switched your thoughts from Eudoria to your dear mother.
As you sat clutching the telegram against your chest. Your face painted with salty tears. Your mother had passed away. You had just seen her the day before and the nurses feared the worst but you had still been clutching on to hope. Hope that she would get better, that she would come home and once again be with you.
And now all of that was gone, she was gone. What on earth were you going to do now?

{ Eudoria's POV }
You could feel the sun slightly ageing your skin as you picked apples from the trees. The wind had stolen your hat but luckily your sidekick was already on the move to retrieve your hat that the wind had so cruelly taken from you. You chuckled slightly as Enola stumbled over herself. Her small frame too eager to keep up with her legs.
Enola had just turned 6 last Spring and she was busy turning into the woman you had raised her to be. She may be small, she may be young but she was confident, smart, witty, loving but above all independent and brave.
You admired your daughter as she ran after your hat. Picking up the basket full of juicy apples, carrying them back inside. You put the kettle on and washed your hands before starting to prepare dinner.
Not long after, an out of breath Enola came running into the kitchen. Proudly wearing your hat. Her hands on her hips and a look of accomplishment plastered on her face.
"My my my, what a persistent little girl you are Enola. Well done, now why don't you go wash up and meet me in the dining room for dinner when you're done."
