Snow!
I wondered if I have ever seen it before. It looked like a white comfy mattress in which I could lie on forever. The moment Ky and I stepped out of the cave, we were welcomed by the beautiful woods covered in blankets of snow. It didn't seem like anyone or anything had been here, there were no markings on the snow. The weather was cool, but I didn't feel the cold one bit. I kept my hoodie on as the snow was still lightly falling.
"We're going to reach a human town soon and from there we'll get a ride to head east. It's not safe to use magic as we travel, many creatures will sense us and we're trying to keep a low profile."
I nodded at Ky's words as I was still marveling at the beauty of my surroundings to verbally respond. It took us almost an hour of walking to reach the human town. We were standing at the entrance to the town square. It was a small little town, but it was quite full of people this early in the morning.
"This place is busy for such a small place. Is it like this everywhere?" Ky chuckled at my question.
"No. This place is like no other. I use to live here, you know." My eyes widened.
"Really... when was this?" Ky had a look in her eyes like she was reliving happy memories and with a small smile, she answered.
"A very long time ago." She quickly pointed at a building, "Look, there. That use to be a performance theater where I performed, not a movie theater." I smiled and began to tease Ky.
"You use to be an actress? No wonder you're so dramatic." Ky scoff, but still with a small smile on her face.
"Oh shut up.... come on, we're here." We stood in front of a car rental place.
"You have a license?" I questioned Ky and she gave me a slick smile.
"No, but you do!" She pulled out an ID and sure enough it was my Driver's License.
"I know how to drive?"
"Yes. And I'm sure that's a skill you can't forget." Ky was confident in her statement. "And if you don't, don't worry, you taught me." I laughed lightly.
"I really need my memories back."
Ky smiled and we walked into the building and as easy as saying: one, two, three, we had a car. The car had a GPS installed in it and Ky punched in an address that said it would take us eighteen hours to get there. Looking at the map, it seemed like we were headed for the mountains.
"Okay, let's see if I can do this." I started the engine, put the gear into R, pressed softly on the gas, and backed up out of the parking space. I pressed the breaks softly, turned the steering wheel, put the gear on D and slowly drove into the road.
"See, I told you this skill can't be forgotten." I smiled as I stared at the road. I was happy that I could remember something from the life I had forgotten.
Two hours into driving, we came to a stop as the road that the GPS told us to turn into was temporarily closed.
"What do we do now." I looked at Ky for an answer. She looked through the GPS for another route.
"Okay, lets take this road." I did a U turn and turned into the road Ky had said.
I hoped it would be smooth sailing from here on out, but I was wrong. About fifteen minutes into driving, we both heard screams coming from the wooded area by the road. We looked at each other and I don't know why I slowed the car down, something Ky did not agree with.
"Do not stop Amira. It's none of our business." Ky warned me, but at that moment a man's body came running out of the woods, covered in blood and ran straight to us. As I hit the brakes, he landed on the hood of the car and turned his head to the side, staring right at me with his fangs out. I knew he had to be a Vampire, that I was sure of. Ky and I let out a short startled scream from the impact. For a second, I thought he was going to attack us, but instead of seeing mischievousness in his eyes, there was only fear. He scrabbled off of the hood of the car and began to run to the opposite side of the woods, away from where he came from.
Ky kept trying to get me to start driving away, but I couldn't. I was too curious to know why he didn't do anything to us and ran away instead. I got my answer when I saw a huge brown wolf come out of where the Vampire came from. A Werewolf! The wolf caught the Vampire before he could escape into the woods. I was so focused in watching as the Werewolf tore the Vampire to pieces, that I didn't hear Ky chanting a spell. Once the wolf was done with the Vampire, it lifted its head, sniffing the air, and he looked straight at our direction. I was so scared to even make any sudden movement or sound, holding my breath as I thought it would attack us next. It was as if it didn't see us. And as I stared at the wolf's beautiful brown eyes, I felt a sudden pain I've felt before and I didn't like it. The Werewolf finally ran off into the woods, taking with it whatever was left of the Vampire.
"That was a close one," Ky finally spoke and I released the breath I was holding. I turned to Ky as I was confused as to what happened.
"Did it not see us?"
"I had to temporarily cover our presences. So we must start driving now before other, much worse creatures find us here." I nodded in agreement as I did not want to encounter something much worse than that Werewolf. I pressed on the gas and sped out of there without looking back.
"That was a Werewolf, right?" I finally asked Ky after taking deep breaths to make the pain go away.
"Yes, and we do not need him knowing about us just yet."
"You know that Werewolf?"
"Yes," that was all she said and I knew she was done talking about this.
The rest of the ride was uneventful, we stopped twice so we could use the restroom, grab something to eat, and put gas in the car. Ky passed the time by telling me stories of growing up with her as my Familiar. I was happy to hear that my life wasn't as bad as I thought it would be since I didn't have my parents around. At almost ten o'clock, Ky switched places with me as I was getting exhausted. As soon as she took the wheel, I knocked out in the passenger seat.
"How are you?" A deep and gentle voice spoke.
I opened my eyes and I was standing in a forest with a white dress. I stared into the golden eyes of a tall man several feet away from me.
"Confused," I said as I looked around the darkness.
"You died... so you have joined us here." My eyes quickly shifted back to looking at him.
"Us?"
"Yes, us Lycans." Suddenly, other people started appearing around me. I couldn't see them clearly in this darkness, but I could make the outline of their silhouettes. I took a few steps back, suddenly scared of being around all these strangers.
"Don't be scared, Amira. My family won't hurt you...your family won't hurt you."
"My family? What are you talking about?" I questioned his strange statement.
"You are Lycan. You are our family." He said with a smile on his face and I looked around in shock at the other Lycans.
"I can't be a Lycan, I'm a Witch. You must have me confused with someone else." The smile on his face never left even after hearing my words.
"You are both and you are the key to setting us free." He said with certainty, confusing me even more.
But before I could even question him, I woke up a bit startled, on the passenger seat of the car. I looked at the time on the dashboard, it was three o'clock in the morning. The radio was playing music at a low volume and I turned to Ky as she drove.
"Ky?"
"Amira, go back to sleep."
"I think I just had a memory come back to me."
"It was just a dream, you've had a long day.
"But it seemed so real, those golden eyes of his seemed so real."
Ky suddenly swerved to the side of the road and hit the brakes, thank goodness I had my seatbelt on. She turned her body towards me and her eyes held a sadness I had never seen before from her.
"Tell me everything."
