~Chapter 3 - Raelyne~

“When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun.”

William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

“Rise and shine Lynne, it’s time for you to get up!” my mother chirped, speaking through the door into my room, cheerfully. I groaned and nestled further under the blankets that mysteriously appeared on me over night. My body was aching and my room felt unnaturally cold, a sense of dread crawled unerring up my spine. I slowly peeked over my covers to look around my room, searching for that pair of vibrant green eyes and the tailored suit that haunted my dreams. Instead I found my white kitten, Elodie, peering right back at me. I smiled just a tiny bit, rubbing her in between her ears, and kissed the tip of her pink nose.

Picking her up and nuzzling into her soft fur, I walked over to my closet and set her on the dresser on the way. She mewed unhappily, rubbing her body against my legs begging to be picked up again. I felt a smile creep onto my face by the action, and bent down to scratch her ears. She looked at me happily, then scampered away to jump onto my bed. I shook my head in amusement, and opened my closet door. Feeling the chill from outside I grabbed a pair of sweats and a long sleeved tee.

I neatly folded my clothes on my bed next to Elodie, and walked attentively to the bathroom. Walking out of my room, I stumbled into the hallway and head towards the closet concealing our towels. I grabbed the first one I saw and slinked towards the small enclosed restroom. Being afraid of seeing the mangled ghost named Luka’s face again, I clutched my towel close to my body and looked away from the mirror.

“You know Lynnie-Pie, you don’t have to go to school today.” She smiled sympathetically, still quite worried about what had happened earlier this morning. I gave her a stern look, letting her know that I was no longer affected about what happened, even if I was torn up inside from it. She looked straight back, worry in her eyes, her lips pursed into a straight line. “If you say so Hun, now eat up your breakfast.” She grumbled, pushing a plate of eggs and bacon in my direction.

As I began to eat my food, I stared out the living room window keeping my eye out for the soon to be arriving bus. Watching outside, I was memorized as the fall colored leaves fell from the trees. Whipping around in the wind, the flurry of colors mixing together in a harmonizing way. Smiling at the sight I felt as if I was in a moment of absolute peace, before it was interrupted by the brash appearance of the yellow bus driving down the road.

Quickly shoving the bacon into my mouth, I grabbed my bag and rushed out the door. Waving goodbye to my mother, I shoved the door out of my way and ran towards the bus. As I caught up to the bus, the driver slowed down to allow me to get on. As he came to a complete stop, I readjusted the shoulder strap of my bag, and climbed the steps to the interior of the bus.
