~Chapter 1 - Raelyne~
“You killed me Raelyne! You killed me! How could you do this to me?” Caspian roared. His eyes were bloodshot and his body frail, skeletal.
“NO! NO! I TRIED TO SAVE YOU CASPIAN! I TRIED!” I screamed, falling to my knees. My voice was hoarse from my heart-wrenching sobs.
“I thought I could count on you Raelyne, I thought I could. I guess I was wrong…” he whispered disdainfully, pulling out a gun. He cocked it back and turned the safety off. “Goodbye, you traitorous liar.” He brought the gun straight up to my head and pulled back the trigger.

Jerking awake, I sat up, the blankets were sticking to my damp body. My heart was racing, and my breath coming in short gasps. Reaching my hand up to touch my forehead, feeling for the blood, for the bullet in my head. Throwing the sheets back, and getting out of bed, I walked melancholically towards the window, throwing it open. Looking gloomily at the swaying willow trees, and gathering the sound of crickets. A rush of cool air whipped my hair up and around me, caressing me in low whispers. Life wouldn't be right for me ever again.
I exhaled, closing the window and backing away from it. I glanced at the alarm clock on my dresser, 2:00. I yawned, knowing I still had several hours before I had to get ready for school, and blinked back the emerging tears. Grumbling to myself, still in shock from my dream, I dragged myself to the bathroom in the hallway. Turning on the light, I was temporarily blinded by the florescent glare. Looking into the mirror and at my reflection I cringed at the sight of the ungodly scar covering my face.
I ran my fingers lightly across the scar, and grimaced at the memory of I how I received it. It went from my right temple, across my right eye, and ending at my left jaw bone. I sustained the scar from a horrible kendo accident. Tearing my eyes away from the mirror, I looked down and turned on the faucet. Reaching under the water, I cupped my hands to gather water. Bringing my hands up to my face I shrieked in shock, and dropped all the water after seeing the reflection of a mangled face in the water. Taking a deep breath, I told myself that I just needed more rest.
Stepping away from my sink, I slowly back out of my bathroom. I left the light on, and switched on all the lights on the way. Knowing that this would only soothe my over reactive imagination, and not entirely help with the faces I’ve been seeing over the past few months. Treading further down the hallway, I looked around warily, afraid to see that horrific face again. Creeping alongside the wall, I peered just around the corner and scanned the living room for a sign of an intruder.
Satisfied I confidently strode towards my father’s study in pursuit for a good book to read, to ease my startled mind. Pushing open the door of the makeshift office, I swiftly turned the lights on and scrambled to the recliner in the corner of the room. On the seat’s arm was the book I was currently reading, Guide to the Paranormal. Picking up the book I flipped it open to my current page, and slumped into the seat getting comfortable. As I began reading the manual from where I had left off, a section of the page caught my eye in particular.
