As Milly Fall walked down the street towards her favourite cafe in the middle of London, she held her head high as she passed people she knew, her brown hair billowing in the wind. Milly had brown eyes and was fair, skinny and average height. But she was most definitely not average in beauty. Milly was beautiful, stunning, gorgeous. You could not describe in words how pretty she was, but she didn't make a big deal about it. So many boys had asked her to go to senior prom but in the end she went with her best friend Noah Danfer. Now days it would hurt Milly to think about Noah, but she managed. Milly had graduated last year from school but didn't know what she wanted to do, so she set off on a Gap Year deciding that that was the best way to clear her head and decide on which career path was the best for her. She smiled and waved to her old peers and thought about them all and what they were becoming; lawyers, doctors, professors, performers. They were all going somewhere but Milly felt like she was just stuck at the starting line for life after high school. She currently had a job at TopShop but she felt like there had to be more to life then just an employee at a shop, I mean, where will that get you in life.
Milly had plenty of options because she had passed all her exams at the end of year twelve with excellent scores, so it wasn't like she had absolutely nothing to go on, it was just she didn't know what to do. As she walked into The Pond (barista), her favourite cafe she ordered a large iced caramel latte. The Pond (barista), was a rustic cafe with exposed brick and a lot of wood. It was great to go in Winter when it is really cosy but also in Summer because they open up the glass front doors. She sat in her favourite spot near the fire in one of the squashy armchairs. Milly and Noah used to sit here together for hours and talk about nothing. Milly wished she could bring back those hours they had together and relive them all over again, but she couldn't because Noah was gone and there was nothing she could do to bring him back. The day after the Prom, Milly had gotten a phone call from Noah's parents saying that there had been an accident and that she should go down to the hospital straight away. When she got there she found Noah lying on a hospital bed with needles and tubes everywhere. Noah had been driving Milly home from the afterparty, they would have stayed longer but a boy called Jacob Nikes, who was a stuck up, know-it-all was being very rude and a bit inappropriate towards Milly. She told him to stop but he didn't so Noah came over and punched Jacob and then left, leaving Jacob with a broken nose. He didn't want anything else happening to Milly. Noah was very protective over Milly, like an older brother. Before Noah dropped Milly home they got takeaway and drove around for a long time and talked and laughed. Milly thought it was one of the best times of her life. Once Noah had made sure that Milly was inside her house safely he left. Apparently Jacob wasn't going to let Noah get away with punching him though and without them knowing, he had followed the two of them around all night, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. That perfect moment came just minutes after he had left Milly's. Noah only lived around the corner and when he got home he went for a quick walk around the block so he could clear his head (that was what he did whenever he needed to clear his mind). As Noah walked across the small bridge joining Milly's and his suburbs, a very drunk and very angry Jacob drove his car straight into Noah. Jacob pretended like it had never happened and drove off. Noah was found the next morning by the police after he was reported missing by his parents. Noah was rushed to hospital and was in a coma. He died two minutes after Milly had arrived. Jacob was sentenced to fourteen years in jail. No matter what the punishment was, Milly knew that it would never bring Noah back and that she could never forgive Jacob.
Milly was in a daze and didn't realise that she was crying until the cafe manager came up to her. She quickly wiped her eyes on her sleeve.
"Sorry dear, are you OK?"
"I'm OK, Marge, sorry", said Milly.
"Is it Noah?" asked Marge. Milly just nodded. Marge knew that that was all she was going to get out her her and decided to leave her to herself.
Milly's phone buzzed. It was her friend Lucy Danfer, Noah's younger sister.
Hey! Guess What! Guess What! -L
What? -M
I just got my acceptation letter from my university! -L
No Way!!! -M
Milly's was so excited for her but deep down she was thinking about how this was just another person she knew that knew what they wanted to do in life, which for Lucy, is to become a physiotherapist. This kind of made Milly think that she needed to start doing something with her life but it also made Milly think that she didn't want to talk to Lucy that much.
I have to go now, xxx -M
KK bye, talk to you later, love you! -L
Milly went to check the noticeboard in the cafe just to see if there were any notes today that would make her feel a bit better. There was one; GIVE TODAY A REASON TO SMILE ABOUT!
Is this board trying to tell me something? Apparently so!!! Thought Milly.
For on the board there was a poster screaming Designer Wanted For ChanelFall-Winter Collection.
Milly skipped the details and called the number down at the bottom, this was exactly what she needed.
The call connected and a woman with a superior tone answered.
"Hello, this is Charleyse Ritester from Chanel, how can I help you?"
"Hi my name is Milly Fall and I was calling to inquire about the Chanel Fall-Winter collection, I found your designer wanted poster in my local cafe."
"Yes, would you like to apply for the designing?"
"Yes please, um, what do I have to do?"
"Well, I will need your full name, age and where you live?"
"My name is Milly Fall and I am 19 years old, and I live in London."
"Ok, thank you, you will have an interview on the 29th of October, so next week, is that ok with you?"
"Um, yes, sure, what time, sorry?"
"So your interview will take place at 10:00am on Tuesday next week."
"Ok thanks, is that all?"
"Yes, if you have anymore inquires just call this number and I will answer your questions."
"Ok thanks bye."
"Have a good afternoon."
Milly was really excited, but she was still wondering if that was the right thing to do, I mean, what if she didn't like it? What if she hated it? What if something went wrong? These questions swam around in Milly's mind and scared her, she was tempted to call the number again and cancel her interview. Then she remembered another thing;
What if she loved it?
