The 29th of October came around real quick after Milly had made that appointment and she was so anxious about it. Bad thoughts kept coming to her about that but all she had to do was remember one question, What if she loved it?
As Milly walked up the steps to the Chanel Building, her eyes ate everything she saw. The building was so tall, white and oh, so grand. She almost didn't want to go in for she feared she would taint its appearance if she were there. But she had to push on, she hadn't signed up for nothing. As she walked though the massive glass doors she knew that this was where she wanted to be. Milly breathed in the scent of Chanel perfumes and stared at the white and red roses that were growing inside. She nervously walked up to the front desk and straitened her blouse as she did so.
"Hi, my name is Milly Fall, I'm here for a 10:00 appointment for the Fall-Winter collection designer wanted."
"Yes. My name is Charleyse Ritester, we spoke on the phone."
"Oh, yeah."
"You will be seeing Kobe Right in just a minute, if you would like to make your way into the waiting room, just through the two glass doors there, I will buzz you through when he is ready." She finished her sentence with a smile so big and white that it could have blinded you.
Milly walked through the dors into an even bigger room with white armchairs that were scattered around numerous glass coffee tables. This sight took Milly's breath away but the thing that really scared her was the fact that three quarters of the room was filled with crying girls telling their friends that they had been rejected.
This man must be harsh! Milly thought. Suddenly it was like she had a black cloud hanging over her head, filled with bad thoughts raining down on her. You might love it, he might love you, you might love it, he might like you, you might love it, and he will love you. Milly chanted this to herself in her head to block out all the bad thoughts. In fact, it was working so well that she managed to block out every other noise, including the one that belonged to Charleyse Ritester telling her that Kobe Right was ready for her. Everyone was staring at Milly as she walked into the class elevator that took her to the top floor where Kobe Right's office was.
The doors opened and Milly felt herself go weak at the knees, his office was amazing. There were glass windows going from floor to ceiling all the way around the room giving you a 360° view of the city. It must have been the best view you could get of the city, you could see everything! Milly was off in her own little world and it would have stayed that way if someone didn't cough loud enough to interrupt her. Kobe Right was sitting at his desk watching Milly as she daydreamed. He was a short middle-aged man with greying hair.
"I get this a lot", he said from his desk. Milly quickly rushed over to him, realising what she had been doing.
"I am so sorry Mr Right, it's just this view is so amazing!"
"Yes it is, but if you would like to take a seat now we can start this interview." Milly obeyed and blushed feeling a little embarrassed.
"Now, to start off this interview I would like you to tell me your name, age, date of birth, location and occupation just so I can make sure all your information matches up to the information we have in our files about you."
"Ok, my name is Milly Jade Fall, I am 19 years of age, I was born on the 28th of March 1996, I live in London and I currently work at Topshop."
"That seems right. Ok, why do you want this opportunity to work with us?"
"Well ever since I have been little I have always wanted to do something creative and I have always loved drawing. In year 7 I did textiles for the first time and I loved it, from that point on I have known that I want to be a designer. I love the idea of being able to design something and then see it come to life."
"You sound like you are determined to do this."
"Oh, I am."
"One thing though, you completed year 12 with high scores but I can't help but notice you haven't gone on to do anything else yet, why is that?"
"Well my best friend died and I guess that kind of messed me up so I didn't want to do anything then and there because I knew that I could make bad decisions, so instead I went on a Gap Year to clear my mind and now I live in London and I am here today because I now know what I want to do in life."
"That makes absolute sense, and I am sorry to hear about your friend." He gave Milly a sympathetic smile.
"It's Ok, I miss him sometimes but I'm not here to miss him, I am here to prove I can be a designer!"
"That's the spirit!" He said quite loudly, "One more thing though, did you have any designs you want to show me? It's quite Ok if you didn't, but it might give me a better view at what we are looking at."
"Oh, yes I do. They are in my bag somewhere." Milly frantically searched through her bag for the designs that she shoved in her bag that morning, just in case she needed them. "Oh, here they are!"
She handed the file of designs to Kobe and he studied them closely, while Milly watched on, nervous of what he would think. Some of the designs in there were from when she was in year 5.
"These are amazing designs you have here Milly!"
"Oh, really, some of them are from years ago!"
"No, no. They are all really brilliant, but," Here is comes... Milly thought to herself. "There aren't enough of them, they are so good! I would love to see more of these designs!"
Milly thought that this was the best news and surely it couldn't get any better than this.
"I would like you to compete to design for us. If you-"
"Sorry, Mr Right, did you say compete?"
"Why, yes I did."
"I don't understand, compete?"
"Yes this is a 2 month competition, you have to do a course with other wannabe designers and at the end, only the best will be designing for us."
Milly was so confused; she thought that this was how she got to design for Chanel not competes to win.
"Milly, it clearly states on the flyer that it was a designing course and that it was a competition to be the best."
Then it all clicked. Milly never read the whole flyer at the café. How could she have been so stupid not to read it!
"Sorry Mr Right, I had forgotten for a second what was on the flyer, silly me!" Kobe gave Milly a scary, judging you, look.
"Ok then, as I was saying before, if you would like to go to see Charleyse downstairs and she will give you the form you need to fill out for the competition. She will also tell you how you can be prepared for the competition."
"Thank you so, so, so much Mr Right for your time."
"No problem, I hope you do well in the competition, I have faith in you." They shook hands and Milly left the glass room feeling happy with herself but slightly disorientated because she had been so stupid not to read the flyer.
This is a competition, Milly, so don't stuff this up! Starting from now she was going to be a sophisticated woman who is training to be a designer. Milly held her head high as she walked out of the waiting room and straight up to the front desk, her brown hair rippling behind her.
