It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, the Tsuji family were in their residence, sitting in the living room while chatting. The TV was on, a news reporter's voice blended in with the voices of the family. Souichi peered in the room where his family was in through the sliding door. He watched them as his face scrunched up in disgust while he mumbled something under his breath.

It was May 3rd, Souichi's real birthday but none of his family seemed to realize that it was his special day. Instead of wishing him 'happy birthday' or even getting him presents, they did that to his cousin, Michina. Souichi was furious, "how could they forget their own beloved family member's birthday? Surely, I'm better and waaaaay more popular than her!" He said in a hush while he violently grabbed the door's border.

"Ding dong!~"

The front door bell rang that interrupted Souichi and his little moment. He scurried off back into his dark room while his brother came out from the living room to the front door. "I'm coming!" He said loudly to the person from the otherside of the door. Koichi opened the door, he was surprised to see a kid that was about the same as Souichi's age with a small gift bag.

"Um...Hello?" he said raising his eyebrows. The person smiled widely, "Good afternoon! I'm (Y/N) (L/N) from Year-6 Class-1," they spoke. "Oh, Souichi's class" Koichi thought. (Y/N) peered inside slightly but turned back to Koichi, "Um, this is Tsuji's residence, right?" they questioned, unsure if they had the right house or not.

Souichi slowly looked out from his room with his rusting nails in his mouth. Looking down the hallway where the front door was, he saw his brother interact with the person outside their home. He couldn't hear much but they caught a glimpse of the person, it was (Y/N), his classmate and his biggest crush. He gulped as he continued to watch them and gave their brother a bag. "Thank you so much and please let him know that I wished him a happy birthday," they said cheerfully before they leave.

Koichi closed the door after saying goodbye as well. He gently held the gift bag, "Oh goodness, I have completely forgotten that it was his birthday today," he thought out loud while he looked at the bag in his hand. Then he looked up to the direction of Souichi's room, he saw his brother's head quickly disappear into his room followed by his sliding door shut with a thud. He walked in front of his brother's room and knocked on the door, "Souichi, a friend of yours just came by to give you your birthday gift." There was no response from Souichi. Koichi placed the bag in front of the door, "They said their name was (Y/N), they also told me to let you know that they wished you a happy birthday." Koichi felt guilty as he said that, how could someone even forget their own little brother's birthday? He stood there for a moment, hoping that Souichi might open his door but gave up after he didn't. He walked back to the living room where his family was at.

"Who was it?" Sayuri, his sister, asked. Koichi sat back down at the table and sighed, "It was Souichi's classmate..." he paused. "...um, they came by to deliver him a gift for his birthday." They all looked at each other, the same thought run through their heads, "we forgot Souichi's birthday"

Souichi sat on his desk as he examined the gift bag that (Y/N) brought in. He placed his hand on his chin, "What if this is a trap?" he asked himself. "Maybe some kids in the class used (Y/N) as a bait to give me a fake gift?" he questioned himself, still not taking his eyes off the bag. "If not, then why would they give me a gift?" he sat there in silence until he gasped, "Maybe- Maybe they like me back?" He giggled happily at his fantasy. His hands reached for the bag and opened it, "Yes, yes! Finally! They noticed me and my love for them!" He laughed but it was cut short when he saw what was inside.

There were two items in there. One small cake with a candle stuck on top and a folded paper. He took out both of them as he dropped the bag on the floor. He reached out for the paper first then read what was written inside.

Happy Birthday, Souichi!

Light up the candle and make a wish!

The little heart beside their name made Souichi's heart skipped a beat. His thoughts were fuzzy and full of questions, "Do they actually like me back?"

He took out a lighter from one of his desk drawers and lit up the small candle on the cake. The small orange flame illuminated his face and the cake, Souichi's glassy eyes stared at the fire as it grew bigger. He wasn't really the type to make wishes or believe those kinds of things would come true but he closed his eyes and thought of a wish.

Then he opened his eyes back again and blew out the candle. The small strand of smoke infused in the air, everything was quiet but a faint sound of the TV could be heard from his room. Souichi took the cake out with his hands and took a bite out of it.

"Too sweet!"

The next morning, (Y/N) walked into school with a group of friends of theirs. They spotted Souichi standing by himself under a tree by the school's building. (Y/N) excused themselves and skipped towards the lonely boy. "Souichi!~" they called out to him, he whipped his head towards them, startled. They stood right beside him while Souichi looked away from them and to the ground. "Did you get the gift from yesterday?" They asked him with a smile. Souichi only nodded in response, (Y/N) was really close to him that he couldn't even maintain eye contact. "I see, I hoped you liked it. I didn't really know what to get for you since we don't talk much haha," (Y/N) continued.

"Oh, what about the wish?" they asked while still looking at Souichi. He fidgeted with the sleeves of his sweater. He pursed his lips together before speaking, "I..." his voice was very quiet. He cleared his throat and continued, "I actually wished for um.." he rubbed the back of his head with his hand, his face was slowly turning red. (Y/N) leaned in close, "Yeah?"

"I wished for a k-kiss from my crush" Souichi finally spat out his words. (Y/N) squealed with excitement, "Aw! That's really sweet," they cooed. "Who is it?" they whispered while they looked around, trying to see if anyone was listening, "Don't worry I won't tell anyone!"

Souichi turned to face (Y/N), his face was pink. He placed his hands on their shoulders softly before pulling them in for a small kiss on the lips. (Y/N)'s eyes widened as he pulled away, both of their faces were beet red.

"It's you" he said.

(Y/N) stuttered to make out any words, "I-...y-you.." The sound of the school bell echoed throughout the school building. Both of them looked at the school building and back to each other. They realized they were the only two that were outside. "Oh no!" Souichi rushed off first from fear and embarrassment. Then he was followed by (Y/N) who was still in a daze, processing what just happened.

They run up the staircase while Souichi's arm was caught by (Y/N)'s hand. He looked back at his smiling classmate that he just kissed was now hugging his arm. Souichi felt the butterflies in his stomach and swallowed his spit. (Y/N) asked him a question while both of them stood on the stairway,

"We're a thing now aren't we?" they grinned.

Souichi couldn't help but giggled and answered enthusiastically, "Yep!"
