It's quiet up here on this glass rectangular prism high-rise apartment, even though the wind is blowing like my box fan on its highest setting. My ass is glued to the edge of the building as I silently cry my heart out. As of one hour ago, Audrey, my recent ex-girlfriend, spams my phone begging for her "favorite" girl to answer. She continues to piss me the fuck off, so I chuck my phone into the sky. When I realize how expensive that phone is, I bolt to the sky, fly past it, and catch it gently one-handed.
I answer and scream as loud as I can, saying, "Stop calling me you cheating whore!"
"Nikki, I'm so sorry!" Audrey yells.
"I saw you getting rammed in the ass like a dog. You were screaming for more!"
"Babe, please listen to me. You gotta understand. You're always out saving people and giving me crumbs of your time." I pull my phone away from my ear to not hear her justification for letting a man pound her. I'm so filled with anger and sadness that I feel like screaming. I put my thumb over to the speaker to silence her voice as I collect my thoughts on what to say next.
"We're done. Stay the hell away from me."
I end the call, block her, and go on a rampage of deleting any pictures I have of her. The whole process brings me back to crying profusely. I'm so angry, I feel like blowing something up with a fireball, but I don't want to get in any trouble with the government again. I return to my lonely ledge to regain some control. My phone beeps when I sit down. I slightly panic, thinking it's Audrey, but recognize it's just the group chat my superhero co-workers use. They require an Omega level super to help out in a mutated plant infestation.
"Another one? Y'all can handle that without me," I say, locking my phone. I gaze down the building through the gap of my legs to watch the people on the sidewalk go by. My phone receives another message again, but before I open my phone, the sound of electricity spark erupts behind me. Out from the yellow sparks, Eddie McConnell, the Man O War, warps in.
"Nikki!" He shouts with excited laughter.
"Hey Eddie," I say, looking back forward.
"What are you doing here? Our friends need our help. Let's go!" He sounds so excited that it bothers me how happy he is.
"You're an Omega level hero too. Go without me."
"Why? Are you busy?" He teleports in front of me, splashing the wind against my back and throwing my hair forward a bit. "Nikki, Are you okay?" I look him in the eyes and laugh with tears in my eyes. "What's going on?"
"She cheated on me," I blurt out. I lunge into Eddie's body, squeezing him tightly as I cry.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"God, I'm so mad I could level an entire mountain."
"Easy there. Why don't you take that anger out on some mutated plants, then we'll go roast some streamers who do hot tub streams." The idea sounds so stupid but does sound like fun. "What do you say?"
"Glad I'm not wearing make-up today," I say, drying my eyes with a small flame from my palms. "Sure."
"Cool! I'll race you." He takes me up high in the sky, far from any buildings. "The last one to New Orleans has to talk with the media!"
"Ah fuck you. You can move at the speed of light; I can't go that fast."
"You have ten seconds. Ten, nine, eight." I give him the middle finger and stick out my tongue before cracking through the sky at high speeds. He has somehow made my mood lighter. I'm kinda looking forward to hanging out with him later. I think our time together will be the perfect distraction from my shitty day.

Short StoryThis is my compilation of stories I wrote. Most of the stories are tests to see where I can take the plots if I decide to make a series out of them. Some of them have intros, while others start in the middle of the story.
