FLEETING thoughts

That's how it goes , in the end. They say your life flashes before your eyes upon the moment of death. Yes , for everyone comes the flashes , before and during life , reflections.

So long ago , younger times , I played with a soccer ball. My sister , myself & a couple-few neighbor kids.

We were at my grandparents' house. Their neighbors had guests as they were older as well. Family gatherings leaving a moment.

So we set up a goal & played a bit. The highlight. I did a rainbow kick. You take the ball and roll it with the top of one foot up the back of your other leg. Then you hold the ball with both legs for a split second in the air , move one leg out of the way and leaving room to kick it from behind in order to punt it over your own head.

I came to the goal defender & did the trick. He followed the ball , I already moved halfway around him before I kicked it up & over both our heads. So awesome , the ball landed at my feet and I dribbled so lightly in for a beautiful goal.

They loved it! Practically asked for my autograph. Specifically , they asked what professional team I played for.

Just a moment , happy to have , happy to keep. The things you hold onto define you in ways. What we are made of , more than clay. Just a little bit more.

I remember that time I played football with some 'friends'. The oldest , tallest biggest guy had the ball. I guess we were supposed to try to tackle him. He ran at me. It didn't last long , for me. He came at me & slammed me it the face with a forearm.

I was out. Not unconscious out , but it felt like I had no upper lip , or at least had a bad cut from my teeth cutting across. I didn't know how bad I was hurt. Felt like I was going to have to go to hospital.

I remember riding my bike home , a mile or so up my road. That was my first real bike. It had three upper bars on the frame and the fork had been changed from a chopper. The bike held the color of a dullish rusty red.

Long story short. I was ok after being checked out , just a little hit.

Big guy , 15 or 16 junior in high school , i believe. Me , about eight or nine. He stood at least two feet taller , twice my weight. Don't think I ever went there again.

Yeah , I get knocked down. But I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down. I get knocked down , but I get up again , you're never gonna keep me down.
