When surviving, being in a group is the best way to go. You have more protection, and it's easier to fend off hoards of the undead. Backup is critical when surviving. Here's a scenario:
Your being surrounded. Your alone, and can't draw your gun. Your only weapon is a knife, and you focus on one zombie. Another one is behind you, and bites you in the neck. Your dead.
Long story short, backup is key.
