A/N- this is just some fluffy stuff since I heard this audio on tiktok and i thought it sounded like peter:) (also happy 25th bday Tom) (also also, there's like 5 different titles I could've used for this)

Little key: italics is inner thoughts, "italics with quotes" is when the person on the other end of the phone is talking:)

TW: kissing, fluffy-fluff, angst?

Summary- Peter is stuck doing work for the Avengers, leaving you to spend another gloomy weekend without him. That is, until he realizes you two have been growing apart and wants to change that.

"I love you."

It's three simple words that can either greatly strengthen— or terribly break a relationship.

The only factor of it is timing.

So, if Peter were to say it to you now, you wouldn't feel the same. Mostly because the timing of things wasn't working for either of you.

Peter was off saving the world, while you were trapped inside studying things you knew would never be useful in the real world.

At first, Peter being Spider-Man was exciting. It shook up your boring life, and you felt closer to him. You were able to know the real him, not the guy in the mask. Him being Spider-Man wasn't a huge deal anyway, as he always made time for you in-between his neighborly duties.

When he became an official Avenger though, the time he always made for you slowly became shorter and shorter. Hours of cuddling and doing fun activities together slowly turned into brief talks on the phone and a quick stop at your apartment.

What you feared the most had happened, you two drifted apart. Things you had no problem telling him were now things you'd be hesitant to say, and you felt that you couldn't be open with him anymore.

Of course, you knew it wasn't Peter's intention to, he tried to compensate for it all. He'd send you souvenirs from different places around the world, and anything he thought that you'd like. Though, like your time spent together, those things came to your mailbox less and less. And you couldn't help but feel lonely as time went on.

You just wanted more time with your boyfriend, was it too much to ask for?

As you were thinking about your relationship with Peter, you got a call from him.

"Peter? It's late, is everything okay?", you said.

"Yeah— yeah, (Y/n), everything is good! I just wanted to say hi, I wanted to see how you're doing. I know we haven't talked much lately but—"

You cut him off, and spat out a reply, "I'm fine. I'd be better if you were here, Peter."

"I know, (Y/n), long distance isn't great but we've been making it work!"

"Is that what you call it? 'Making it work'? We never talk or do anything together and you're always busy! I'm just asking for us to be able to have—" You started ranting to him about it all, but he cut you off.

"Sorry, (Y/n), but the Avengers just told me about the next mission we have to go on."

In a moment of desperation, you quickly said to him,

"Peter, wait. I—"
"—love you."

You were hesitant on the second part, as you had never said it to each other.

"I'm sorry but I gotta go, I have to get ready for the next mission."

"Pete—", You heard the sound of the 'call ending' tone.

"Shit." You said to yourself.

Did I just ruin everything?

~~~
A few hours had passed since you said 'I love you' to Peter. You hated yourself for thinking it could help fix the problems you two were having.
Although, his response was hurting you more than yourself. It hurt knowing that he blew you off, like he didn't love you back.
Laying in bed, you had teary-eyes that created a waterfall that was running down your face.
While Peter wasn't feeling the same as you, the weather was. It had gone from being just cloudy outside, to a heavy downpour.
Maybe if I could control the weather, I could be a superhero and see Peter everyday at the Avengers tower, you thought. It was a stupid thought, but it was just a side effect from missing Peter.
The window next your bed made a noise, as if something had hit the glass. You sat up and went over to it, a fairly big wad of spider web was shot at it to make the noise. You looked past it to see someone standing in the street.
Standing outside in the heavy rain was Peter, shouting up to your apartment.
"I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!"
Your face lit up brightly hearing those words.
You ran down the flights of stairs and out the door to see and sopping wet Peter, who you quickly rushed over to and hugged him.
Both of you pulled away from the hug and looked at each before kissing him.
Apparently, when you said 'I love you', it was the perfect time for both of you.
