Jeongyeon dropped down on the bleachers with an exaggerated yawn. Her four after school kids were already doing their final exercises on the court. After a week full of strategy meetings and campaign planning, Jeongyeon felt like a truck had hit her square in the chest.

Not only that but the student council was down two members since both Nayeon and Dahyun were running for president, and that came with the unfortunate consequence of all the remaining members having to take on a lot more responsibilities.

She shook her head from all the stress and focused her attention on the kids instead. Seeing them running around with wide smiles on their faces sparked a tingling warmth in Jeongyeon's chest. It reminded her of herself, back when she was younger and the thing she looked the most forward to every day was getting to play with her friends at the afternoon program.

"Jeongyeon." She heard from the side doors.

That voice. Whipping her head to the side, Jeongyeon groaned when her eyes locked onto Nayeon's.

Jeongyeon fought back the urge to roll her eyes as Nayeon strutted closer, her nose already slightly upturned and her eyes fixed in a thin glare. She seemed intent on approaching Jeongyeon and as much as she'd like to tell the other girl to fuck off, there wasn't much she could do in a gymnasium filled with elementary school kids.

Nayeon paused a few feet away to lean down and say hello to her sister, who immediately latched onto her leg and began talking her ear off.

"Yes, sweetie, we'll go home soon, I just need to do something real quick. Do you maybe want to go over to the other kids -"

Jeongyeon decided to bite the bullet and interrupt on Nayeon's behalf. "Hey Seoyeon, looks like your sister wants to talk to me. Help Eric put away the basketballs?"

The two watched in silence as Seoyeon gleefully ran towards the sluggishly confused Eric. Jeongyeon risked a glance at Nayeon only to see an expression completely contrasting the one on her face just minutes ago. Her facial expression was relaxed, almost serene, as she looked with a small smile at her sister helping the boy out.

Suddenly, the smile dropped and Nayeon spun around to face Jeongyeon with her usual angry countenance.

"You." Nayeon growled.

Jeongyeon groaned in annoyance. "What the hell do you want, Nayeon?"

"I don't like you and you don't like me. Whatever. But you better not take anything out on Seoyeon or I'll ruin you, you hear me, Yoo Jeongyeon?" Jeongyeon swatted away the finger poking at her sternum.

"Who do you think I am? Of course I wouldn't!" Jeongyeon defended herself loudly, before lowering her voice when she noticed the genuine concern on Nayeon's face despite her brash words.

She took a deep breath. "You might literally be satan... but your sister is an angel. I'd never treat her any differently than I would have before I knew she was related to you."

The tension in Nayeon's shoulders loosened. "Good."

"Plus, being sisters with you is probably punishment enough for anything she could possibly do." Jeongyeon said, no real sting to her words, before nudging Nayeon's shoulder with hers.

As much as she hated Nayeon, she could respect her concern for her little sister.

Nayeon scoffed, returning the nudge. "Shut up, loser."

"I really mean it though, okay?" Jeongyeon said. "She's a sweetheart. She's the cutest kid ever."

"Obviously." Nayeon said, shrugging. "Where do you think she gets it from?"

Jeongyeon scoffed. "Wait, hold up, did you just refer to yourself as cute?"

Nayeon flushed and gave Jeongyeon an unimpressed look. "Am I not?"

"Well, you -" Jeongyeon paused, glancing at the girl next to her.

Objectively, Nayeon was a very pretty girl. It'd be a lie not to acknowledge that.

Still, Jeongyeon knew the simmering broth of ugly that was stewing underneath her bright-eyed facade. "You -"

"I'm waiting?" Nayeon raised an eyebrow.

"Grotesque." Jeongyeon muttered.

Nayeon's jaw dropped open and she let out an angry huff before directing another smack at Jeongyeon's shoulder.

This one hurt.

"Idiot." Nayeon's left eye twitched in annoyance. "Just don't mess with my sister and or I'll murder you."

"Nice talk!" Jeongyeon called out as Nayeon stomped away to fetch her sister.

Jeongyeon was silent as she watched the tension drop off Nayeon's shoulders the closer she got to her smiling sister. Nayeon leaned down and gingerly scooped her sister up in her arms.

There was a gentle way that Nayeon treated her sister that Jeongyeon wasn't used to seeing. She wondered if that side of Nayeon even existed outside of that small proximity around Soyeon.

Clearly there were kids at school that liked Nayeon but Jeongyeon couldn't begin to imagine it would have anything to do with Nayeon's personality. After all, Nayeon was loud and opinionated and stubborn to a fault. There was no way Nayeon could possibly hide that.

Even if Nayeon did show this kinder side of herself at school, Jeongyeon knew it had to be a facade. There was a dark intention that Nayeon held with every action.

She was spiteful, vengeful, and selfish. She was aggressive and eager to jump on secrets and weaknesses. These were traits Nayeon undoubtedly possessed that Jeongyeon knew she wasn't just making up due to her long time hatred of her.

Nayeon knew how to brandish words like a sword and she made it a hobby to cut up against Jeongyeon's ego whenever she had the chance. Even if Jeongyeon could bring down her pride enough to admit that she gave back as much as she was given, it didn't stop the fact that all of this anger and resentment between them all stemmed from Nayeon.

Jeongyeon may have instigated half of their battles, but it was Nayeon who had started the entire war.
