It was once said that the Moon was a woman. As beautiful as can be. So beautiful that only the stars could fathom her beauty, but the sun? He couldn't see.

It was said the Sun was radiant, and burnt so bright. But the moon, so luminous, only showed her face at night.

She was surrounded in a blanket of darkness. Unseen. Untouched. Unloved.

The Sun, aware of this beauty, knew he would give anything to catch a glimpse of her and the way she would illuminate the night sky. The stars had told him stories.

Then one day, when the Sun was gliding from the heavens, he caught a glimpse of the beautiful Moon. She was peaking up from her darkness, a rare side of her being exposed in the light.

It was then the Sun realised, while he could shine, he knew the Moon could glow.

Just as the stars began to twinkle in the sky, the Sun knew in that moment, he was totally and completely in love. He began to yearn to see her more than those fleeting moments at dawn and dusk.

But they were a world apart.

The Moon could feel this.

"Go," she whispered to the Sun on one of those blistfull moments. Her voice as sweet and sorrowful as the last light of the morning.

"Go and let me breath, for you and I have decided fates. You illuminate the day, and I cast a glow on the night. We will never be. Our connection would go against what all the people believe, all they know."

The Sun had listened to these words, but during the summer he would stay out just a little longer in case the Moon changed her mind.

But it was no use.

"Please," she whispered once more. "Don't abandon your blessing of light for my darkness."

That was the last words the Moon ever spoke to the Sun, for she was not strong enough.

Dusk and dawn came and went, the Sun feeling the Moon's peaceful soul. Soon it became clear to him.

For his love for the Moon, he would die each and every night to let his true love breathe, for that would put an end to all of her misery

A noise in the night stirred the girl from her peaceful slumber

A noise in the night stirred the girl from her peaceful slumber. Her dreams of the Moon and the Sun were just another thought as her eyes blinked soundlessly open. The pull of sleep still lingered, the girl feeling a pond of drowsiness pool around her toes; the cool of the water sending shivers up her body.

But the water drained as she heard the noise again.

It was a tapping. As if someone was walking on their toes. But the ground they moved on was not the concrete she had grown used to. And the sound was not next to her, but above.
