Gibbs POV

I didn’t want to send my eldest granddaughter undercover to get this guy, even if it meant getting Ziva back. Yeah, Ziva is like a daughter to me, like family, but Anna is my blood family, and even though she could take care of herself, I didn’t like putting her, Tim, Lizzie, Jay, Tom, Sienna, Aaron, Talia, Ziva or Tony in any kind of dangerous situation.

It looked like Ziva had already gotten herself into one.

I told Anna that she could interview this Dmitri Kovac, I just didn’t specify how exactly we were going to get to him.

After I’d given her a file containing all information on Kovac, I headed down to Autopsy, to ask advice from the one person I was willing to ask advice from.

‘Ah, Jethro, I didn’t think we had a case?’ I smiled, remembering him saying those exact words when I brought Lizzie down here on her first day.

‘No, we don’t. I need some advice,’ I said.

‘Well, anything I can do to help,’ Ducky answered.

‘Ziva’s missing,’ I started. He looked as though he was about to interrupt, but I kept going. ‘We found a number of calls with a drug lord in Bosnia, and I know how to get to him.’

‘So, what’s the problem?’ Duck seemed confused.

‘It’s an undercover assignment, which involves sending Anna, Jay, Tom, Talia, Aaron and Sam as well into the drug ring. This guy is hiring kids, Duck, but I don’t want to send six of my seven grandkids into a dangerous place like that. I don’t want this to be Shannon and Kelly all over again.’

Ducky appeared stumped by my situation, and that didn’t happen often. He then looked thoughtful for a moment before his desk phone rang.

‘Hello?... Ah, Anna, my dear, what do you need?... Yes he’s down here… Oh oka-‘ Anna hung up after she got confirmation. Within a minute, she was standing in front of me, waving the file around.

‘You didn’t tell me this guy was getting kids in on his drug operations!’ she exclaimed.

‘Your point?’ I asked.

‘Send me in! Unless you have a better idea?!’ she was just as stubborn as Lizzie, never wanting to back down.

‘No, the only way it would work is if I sent all of you in – minus Sienna. This guy targets large groups of kids, and I’m not risking all of you,’ I replied firmly. Anna huffed and crossed her arms.

‘Well, what would you say if I took my siblings and cousins on a holiday to Europe?’ she tried.

I sighed.

‘Fine, but you make sure nothing happens to you, Jay, Tom, Sam, Aaron or Talia. Sienna is not going, do you understand?’ I said firmly. Somehow my granddaughter is the only person who can wrap me around their little finger, and then get away with it later.

‘GG, you’re awesome! I love you so much!’ Anna threw her arms around my shoulders, but I caught her.

‘Promise me?’ I said again, otherwise she’d find some kind of loophole to get around it. ‘And you do realise I’ve got to ask your parents and your Uncle Tony before you go?’

‘Of course, but let me tell him at the same time? If I’m there, I could help encourage him to let us go!’ she said.

‘You do realise, my dear, that you are practically taking your younger counterparts into a danger zone?’ Ducky put his hand on her tall shoulder.

‘I know, Duck, but this is my first undercover and I’m making sure nothing is going to go wrong. With any luck, we’ll find Ziva after we get recruited by this Kovac guy,’ she smiled, and then turned to me. ‘I’ll get Uncle Tony, Mom and Dad into your office then?’

‘Go on then,’ I nodded my head towards the elevator, which she then rushed into as if her life depended on it.

Anna POV

Finally! I’ve been trying to get an undercover op for months!

The minute the elevator stopped in the bullpen, I ran out whilst trying to keep the smile off my face. This wasn’t about me, this was about Auntie Ziva, or Doda, which is Aunt in Hebrew. She taught me how to speak Hebrew when I was fourteen, and I’ve never forgotten.

‘Mom? Dad? Uncle Tony? Director wants to see us in his office,’ I told them. I had to call him Director around the agency so that other agents didn’t get too casual with him.

‘Okay, sweetie, tell him we’ll be up in a minute,’ Mom smiled at me, and then turned to Uncle Tony to explain to him that Aunt Abby would look after Talia, Aaron and Sienna, whilst he came up to GG’s office.

Soon enough, we were all upstairs and sitting around the dark wood table in the office. Grandpa had asked me to do the briefing on Kovac and the undercover op.

‘Okay, so we found several calls in Aunt Ziva’s phone records to a phone number in Bosnia belonging to this guy,’ I gestured to the screen behind me. ‘Dmitri Kovac, a drug lord operating out of Sarajevo. He lives in the Musafija Mansion Block in the city, and he is recruiting children and young adults who are either homeless or unemployed to live at the mansion and distribute the drugs to other young people,’ I explained.

‘So, is there going to be an undercover op then?’ Mom asked. Always straight to the point.

‘Well, that’s the thing…’
