Anna POV

‘No. No way. We are not going to let you take your brothers and sister into somewhere like that. Uncle Tony needs his kids right now, and we’re not going to let you go either,’ both my parents stood in front of me, adamant this wasn’t going to go ahead.

‘Do you seriously think I would let anything happen to Sam, Tom or Jay? Or Talia and Aaron, for that matter! Remember when Jay broke her arm, and I broke nearly six laws, just to get her to the hospital before the adrenaline wore off? Or when Sam was in a courtroom, and I tasered the criminal when he showed the slightest sign of attack? Or how about when Tali was just starting to walk to school by herself, and I followed her just to make sure she was safe? If they go in there with me, nothing is going to touch them!’ I stalked out before they could say anything, but Grandpa had a pretty impressed look on his face.

It was a Sunday, so most people had already left for the day. I went down to the one place I knew I would be least likely to be disturbed. Autopsy.

I knew for a fact we didn’t have a case at the moment, because I checked the autopsy records before I went down there, which meant Ducky would’ve gone home. I went down using the stairs, as I would have to go through the bullpen to get to the elevator, and I made sure the lights were off before I went in.

Hoisting myself onto one of the cool, metal tables, I laid back, and closed my eyes. But, soon, enough, I was disturbed.

‘Anna? What are you doing down here? You know, you’ve inherited this trait from your grandfather. I would often find him down here, usually when something was troubling him,’ Ducky’s voice rang through the dark silence.

‘What about you, Ducky? What are you doing down here?’ I said, without sitting up.

‘I merely forgot my hat. Now, why don’t you tell me what’s troubling you?’ he replied, flicking the lights on and setting his bag down on his desk.

‘No, not gonna happen, cos you’re gonna do your whole psych eval thing, and get the whole truth out of me!’ I sat up suddenly and pointed a finger in his direction.

‘I am starting to wonder if you’re the one with the psychology degree! Is this about the undercover mission you’ve been discussing?’ he really doesn’t miss a thing, does he?

‘Yeah, it is,’ I sighed. ‘Mom and Dad don’t want me taking the kids into Bosnia, even though I’m perfectly capable of making sure nothing happens to them and- ‘ I cut myself off. ‘Damn you, Ducky! You always manage to get it out of me!’

He just laughs.
