Two down, five and three quarter hours to go.
Ariadne groaned, allowing her head to fall back against the seat. At least her mum had the decency to ship her first class. And, you know, not ship her but fly her. She was not very good with boats. But she had to get from London to New York and then from New York to Nebraska. All for what? She was seventeen. Her aunt passing away didn't mean she had to join her mum in the states! Liza had offered her a home, but her mum made her refuse.
Now she was on a flight, plugging her ear buds back into her ears after speaking with the flight attendant. She refused to stare at the water beneath her for even a second longer; blue was no longer her favorite color. She frowned, thinking about her puppy. He had no window to look out whatsoever. That was another thing, watching her little miniature pinscher being boarded on to a plane as he barked after her retreating figure. He was a year and a half! She rarely abandoned him. Poor Regulus was probably scared out of his wits!
She let out an impatient huff, ignoring the look she received from the man seated next to her.
As her food arrived, she sighed, taking a bite into the veggie burger.
She was a vegetarian, and she had been for eight years. She was seventeen years old, and she was going to be joining her new school as a 'junior', an eleventh year.
She wasn't excited.
Liza, Delaney, Theodore, Reese and Vanna weren't thrilled when they heard the news, either. She had lived with her aunt after her parents divorced and her mum had been offered a transfer job to Nebraska. She was close with her aunt, having lived with her five years, and when she passed away, she was twice as upset that her mum couldn't take a week off her job to attend the funeral.
Of course, in her will, her aunt left nearly everything to her. Her house, her money, and her belongings. She wasn't close to anyone else apart from her friends, but they didn't need any of her objects.
"I promise I'll return the day I turn eighteen," Ariadne had promised her friends. Teary-eyed, they had all nodded and given her parting gifts.
She looked down at her wrist, glancing at the most valuable gift she had received. A bracelet rested on her left wrist, carrying seven charms. Reese, her best friend, had given it to her. The first charm was a dog; he was the one to help her pick out Regulus.
The second charm was an icicle. When they were younger, the two of them had icicle sword fights. Heck, they still had them.
The third charm was a heart. They were best friends, it's not their fault they loved the other!
The fourth was a key. They each had a key to the other's home. And heart. But that sounded cheesy.
The fifth was two letters. RA. Obviously Reese and Ariadne. Why Reese's initial was first, Ariadne didn't know. She was more special! Okay, not really, but, hey, neither of them were special until his initial went first. So, now he was the special one.
The sixth was a normal pop can top. They collected them as kids, and the one that she had was the first one that the two of them had ever collected.
The last was a cancer ribbon. At the same time that Aunt Jane was suffering liver cancer, Reese's father was diagnosed with cancer in much of his bone marrow. He, however, recovered.
She looked away, biting again into her burger. In less than a few minutes she had finished, set her plate aside, and sunk back into the comfortable seat. Within heartbeats she was out, dreaming she was back at home.
Even in the back of her mind during the dream, she knew it would be true one day.

Okayokayokay, I know I used Ellen Page(Ariadne in Inception) as Ariadne, but, I LOVE that name, and I was planning on using it in a story as soon as I saw that movie. I get sudden strikes of genius that way. Anyways, I was trying to type up her character profile and I typed one that was similiar to Ellen's looks. So, I said, screw that, Imma just have her be Ariadne. I didn't try to rip off Inception's characters. They're not too a like. xDD Their only similiarity is that they're witty/sarcastic.
Moving on.
This is just the prologue. I'm working on chapter one. x3
I'm hoping the fact that I will need to update on this site will give me the motivation to work on this story...
Ehh. Wish me luck with that.
