Chapter Three: Damien

Previously:
Shayne: Goodnight, Court
Courtney: Goodnight Damien.

Now:
Shayne did not know what to do. He tried to shake it off. Literally. Shayne decide to just get some sleep and forget about it. Damien, pro gamer, always stayed up too late. Damien emerged from his room to get a glass of water. He walked out to find Courtney sleeping in the couch. She looked so peaceful. He smiled at her. Damien tried his best to be quiet but the ice maker was louder than he thought.

Courtney: w-what
Damien: shh go back to bed. I'm just getting some water.
Courtney : Damien?
Courtney sits up.
Damien: yeah?
Courtney: would you come sit with me til I fall asleep? I just get nightmares sometimes, but it's cool if not I mean-
She was rambling. Damien set down his glass of water on the coffee table and sat down next to Courtney on the couch. He got an extra blanket for himself. Soon enough they both feel asleep, Courtney snuggled on Damien's chest.

The next morning Shayne woke up feeling better with the intention of making Courtney breakfast. As he walked into the living room he couldn't believe his eyes. His best friend and his crush were asleep together on the couch.

Shayne, loudly: what the f*ck!
Courtney, waking up, holds her head as she is a little hungover : good morning to you too.
Courtney then sees a sleeping Damien next to her and realizes what Shayne must think.
Courtney: we didn't- it's not what you think.
Shayne, heartbroken: I can't believe you too. I really thought our date went well.
Courtney: it did! It did go well. Damien was just getting some water and I had a nightmare and he was helping me fall back asleep. Nothing happened. I promise.
Damien wakes up, rubbing his eyes.
Damien: what's going on?
Shayne: what's going on is I thought we were best friends. Why would you do this?
Damien: nothing happened between us. You know I would never do that.
Shayne: DO I? DO I KNOW? I WANT TO BELIEVE YOU BUT I DONT.
Damien: WHY SHAYNE? YOU TRUST ME. I WOULD NEVER GO BEHIND YOUR BACK LIKE THAT.
Shayne: BECAUSE OF WHAT COURTNEY SAID.
Courtney, covering her ears from the yelling: what did I say?
Shayne, getting the hint and speaking quieter: you said Damien's name. You were pretty drunk and when I told you goodnight you said goodnight Damien.

Damien was shocked, a million thoughts racing through his head. Did Courtney think about him? He wanted her too. He realized he liked her too.

Courtney: oh I don't know what you think happened but it was a mistake. I don't know what you want from me.

Shayne, tears in his eyes : I want the truth.

Courtney: The truth? Fine. Look I had a great time on our date but I just don't know if I want to be serious with you. And maybe I think about Damien a lot too. He helps me feel like myself and he's the sweetest person I've ever met.
Shayne: Damien?
Damien: I have feelings for Courtney. I wasn't going to act on anything because I would never want to get in your way.
Shayne: Looks like you have to choose
