Chapter Four: Courtney's Choice

Courtney couldn't imagine choosing between the two people she trusted most.
Inner monologue:
Omg I have to choose. How can I choose between these two people? Shayne, the funniest, charismatic sweetheart that really cares about me. And Damien, the loving, goofy nurturer. What to do?

Coming back to the present moment.
Damien: I don't mean to rush you but like how long do you want to think things over?
Courtney: oh umm maybe a couple days?
Shayne: that's fine. Take as long as you need.
Damien: yeah
Courtney: I'm kinda hungry. Can we go get something?
Shayne: yeah I'll drive
Damien gets dressed for the day and brings a pair of sunglasses for Courtney.
Damien: here these might help with the hangover
He hands Courtney the sunglasses
Courtney: thanks, dames.
Courtney felt way too fancy for the brunch place they were going too and stood awkwardly trying to regroup. She went to the bathroom to wash up.
Shayne knocked on the door.
Shayne: Hey do you need some clothes? You looked super overdressed for brunch.
Courtney yells from inside the bathroom:
Yeah that would be great, just gimme anything small you got.
Shayne goes to his room and picks out an tee shirt that's a little tight on him and some sweatpants with a drawstring waist.
Shayne knocks again on the bathroom door. It opens to a much more woken-up looking Courtney.
Shayne: here you go. I hope this is okay.
Courtney: yeah I'm sure it'll be fine. Thank you.
Courtney changes and then the three get into Shayne's car.

Int. Shaynes car
The ride over to the brunch place is silent aside from the radio which is playing some kind of background music quietly. Courtney is stressed and thinking about her choice. Damien is jealous as he notices Courtney is wearing Shayne's clothes. Damien has never felt competition with Shayne, except from Mario party. They arrive and Shayne parks the car.

In the Restaurant
They all walk in to the restaurant and order. Courtney is sitting across from the two boys.
Her heads hurt from all the stress and hungover. She goes to the bathroom leaving the boys alone.

Shayne: so...
Damien: listen man I don't want to hurt you and no matter who she picks, it's gonna hurt the other person.
Shayne: you're right. Do you think we should move out?
Damien: it might be for the best, but we'll still have to work together and you're still my best friend.
Shayne: yeah you'll always be my best friend. I think we should get separate apartments but it's stupid to let this split us up.
Damien: it is.
Shayne: thanks, man.
They hug in the middle of the restaurant.

Int. Bathroom stall
Courtney sits in a ball on the toilet in a bathroom stall crying. She can't make up her mind. Courtney's old friend, Kimmy, walks through the door. Courtney tried to hold her breath but it doesn't work.
Kimmy: hello? Are you okay in there? Can I help?
Courtney unlocks the door to see her old friend. She wipes her tears
Courtney: Kimmy?
Kimmy: oh my. Courtney come here, girl.
They hug.
Kimmy: sunglasses?
Courtney: hangover.
They both laugh.
Courtney: what are you doing here?
Kimmy: just having brunch with a friend. What a coincidence.
Courtney: yeah it's good to see a familiar face
Kimmy: do you want to talk about why you were crying?
Courtney: I guess.. it's just *sigh* these two guys I work with both have feelings for me and I don't know what to do. I think I like them both.
Kimmy: that's tough. Are you sure you want to be in a relationship?

Int. Restaurant.
Courtney comes back to the table to a plate of eggs and bacon in front of her and two considerably happier men. The boys stop their conversation and look at Courtney.
Courtney: I made up my mind.
Damien: oh
Shayne: cool
Courtney: I don't want a lot of stress or to drive you guys apart and this has been one hell of a weekend. I think I'm just going to be single right now.
Shayne and Damien smile at each other.
Courtney is nervous and picking at her nails.
Shayne: I'm okay with that.
Damien: me too. We just want you to be happy, Courtney.
Courtney is relieved and they all smile in a cheesy way and then resume eating.

A few months pass and the three become closer and the best of friends. They kept work professional.

Shayne and Damien get their own apartments eventually.

Shayne got over his crush pretty soon. Damien took a little longer before dating again.

Courtney reconnected with Kimmy and got her a job with Smosh too.

Courtney sometimes wonders if she made the right choice.
