The world knows the story, or at the very least they had a version drilled into their heads at some point. In the beginning of it all there was nothing, then there was everything and God said "It was good". God rose man from the dust and looked upon him and his infinite loneliness and thought to give him a wife. The story splinters from there. Some say God took a rib from Man's side and created a woman in her perfection and form to be his eternal match. Then there is the text most don't see and when they hear the story nod as though they knew it all along. On that perfect day in Eden upon looking at man's sadness God made him a woman, but this one he rose from the dirt alongside Adam. God turned his gaze to Adam and told him, "This is to be your wife." Her name was Lilith, and she was the first wife of Adam. For a time the two were content living in Eden and they were indeed good. Lilith was a fair wife to Adam, though he noted in laments to the Lord, she was spirited. One night, the two were together in passion, and Lilith took it upon herself to top Adam. He chided her, reminded her she was subservient to her as she was made for him. Lilith could not stand by this. "I too was raised from the dirt. We are the same".

This caused Adam to commune with God again. "Creator, I can not bear this creature you call a woman. She defies nature, for the lioness cannot mount a lion, a mare cannot breed a stallion, Woman cannot top man" God cast Lilith from Eden, cursed to walk the world alone, for she had the audacity to call herself man's equal. Then God plucked a rib from Adam and gave him Eve, and she knew her place was beside him. Lilith wandered through the world alone and starving, turned upon by nature and beast. She walked forth towards the morning star. Then an angel approached her like a spinning wheel of light. This was the first and only thing to take pity on her soul. The light took a familiar form, that of a man, strong and tall, who asked her a simple question.

"Woman, why do you rebel?"

Lilith hadn't, in her mind, rebelled. She stared at the Angel, yet she glanced deep inward. "That world was not for me. I stand below no man who is my equal" she stood firm in that thought and as the Angel questioned she had more answers. "If I cut an animal, does it not die the same as if that man cuts it? Does man not need food and water to sustain himself as I?" The angel laughed and began leading Lilith further from Eden. The two walked together for hours, discussing all things and finding a mutual understanding in most. Though Lilith couldn't understand the nature of most things the Angel spoke of, she listened. She loved to listen to him. Finally she looked upon his face and asked his name.

He stood back from her, and his face screwed up in pain. "I had my name stripped from me, as my Father felt I no longer deserved it" You see, he had also rebelled against the wishes of God. They sent him from Heaven to walk the Earth until he understood its goodness. Once he did this, they would welcome him home with open arms. Perhaps he had found some of that beauty in Lilith. The human watched his inner thoughts turn and twist silently. She held no judgement, and he was pleased.

Lilith looked toward the star she had been following, only to see that it was no longer there. She remembered briefly the form her angel had come to her in and thought about this. "Then I shall call you Lucifer, for you are to me the morning star, I followed in need. You are the bringer of my light". The angel smiled and light did indeed shine on Lilith again. He gently stroked her cheek, then tilted her chin towards his face.

"Very well, I shall henceforth be known as Lucifer"

Lucifer and Lilith made the most unlikely pair. The two spent days sharing their company and their burdens. Lucifer provided for his human, giving her all she needed to survive and thrive. He would watch as she slept in awe of her perfection. Lilith gave Lucifer comfort in his trouble, soothed his rebellious soul. There was no bond greater. Yet a darkness sat deep in the minds of our couple. The disdain for the Creator grew stronger each day, until the two made their way back to the garden. Watching from afar, Lilith witnessed the comfort of Eve as she laid beneath Adam happily. Lucifer watched the two in all their human ugliness, defile the garden with no regard for its care. Lilith and Lucifer felt the bitterness grow. A plan grew from that seed of bitterness. One that would become the most nefarious of all time. Lucifer used his strength and significant power to turn his precious Lilith into a serpent.

"You know the laws of the Garden. Convince that woman to defy God and we shall both have our victory"

Lilith slithered into Eden and wrapped herself into the Tree of Knowledge. This had been the one thing she knew would gather the ire of the Lord. Eve was easily swayed with honeyed words to bite into the fruit. Lilith returned to her Angel, who beamed in pride. He returned her to her human form, yet upon her shoulder she bore the make of a snake bite. A reminder of the joke they had played. The two took refuge in a cavern, spending the night as man and woman do, yet Lilith was on top.

Come the morning, the skies grayed and the Earth shook, thunder spoke from the heavens. Fear sparked in Lilith's heart. None of Lucifer's words calmed her. They had been caught, damned to be tried for their crimes against humanity. For their parts in human's fall from grace, they were cursed yet again. God charged Lucifer to Hell, to forever guard the depraved. He so strongly believed in humanity's evil ways that he would become the keeper of the worst of them. God also stripped the angel of his true name permanently, he would forever be known only by the name given to him by the Humans.

The Creator's curse for Lilith needed to be more creative. From then on, no child she bore would have a soul, casting it from the Lord's love and damning it to be a daemon in Hell, serving her lover. Then he played the cruelest trick. He sentenced her to eternal life, pulling her mortality from her chest. She would never be in the embrace of her Lucifer again. She watched in horror as the light from her Morning Star faded out of existence and into the bowels of hell to lie in wait for souls to guard.

With the two separated, the dawn of man came unimpeded. All their downfalls were their own. Lucifer would come occasionally to the wall of the veil and whisper to humans he could, corrupting them in spite. Lilith used her wit to seduce the children of Adam and Eve through the years, bearing her lovers children that were twisted, vile creatures. Each a unique beast that would serve her lover well in Hell. She delivered each child as an offering, a reminder of her love for him. Her children were granted the highest ranks among the daemons. Lucifer loved them more than any other in Hell. This was all they had. Though ask anyone you know who has lived a long life. There comes a time when the spite, anger, and need for vengeance fade, and all that remains is the lonely. After hundreds of years, she grew tired. Tired of senselessly wishing things were different. Tired of hunting down whispers in the void to hear her Lover's voice again. She wanted to be with him. It was then she made her mind up that she would find her way back to Lucifer. She had nothing left for her on Earth but time.
