"And you're sure you're okay with this?" Ace asked, giving me a worried look as we walked down the hall. "For the millionth time, yes!" I said, squeezing his hand with a smile. "I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't comfortable about it. I just...I want to be happy with you, and we'll be able to spend more time with each other at least at like school and stuff if we're not having to hide it." "And you're sure?" he asked again. Smiling, I kissed him on the cheek. "Yes! I'm positive." He returned my smile, kissing me. "Love you," I murmured. "Love you too," he said, eyes sparkling.
"Sorry, y'all mind going back a few pages there?" Paul's voice asked suddenly. We both jumped, turning to stare at him, and I could see Ace growing red. "Oh hey you got your brace off!" I said, and Paul grinned. "Yeah, yesterday afternoon finally. But yeah don't change the subject on me, what the hell's the deal with you two?" "We've been dating since 8th grade," I said with a shrug, and he stared at me in shock. "I didn't even know for certain you were gay!" he said in disbelief. "That's because I don't want my parents to know, which is why we haven't told anyone. The rest of them know and his parents know but mine don't so don't tell anyone."
"I won't, don't worry. Have you seen Gene, by the way? He said he was going to meet up with me after I finished the test I was supposed to be taking yesterday." "Mm no but I think Bruce and Singer were talking with him earlier, they'd probably know," Ace said, slipping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder. I nearly melted against him, turning and kissing him on the cheek, leaning against him. "Alright, we get it, you're in love," Paul teased. "We are," Ace said, giving me a squeeze.
"Yeah, old news," Gene said, giving us a smile as he walked over, but his eyes were angry. "What's wrong?" I asked, and his forced smile evaporated. "Nothing." The bell rang, cutting off any further questions, and I let out a sigh, turning to Ace. "I'll miss you," I murmured, resting my forehead against his. He nodded, kissing me softly on the tip of the nose. "I miss you already. But we've got second period together!" he said. "And thank goodness for that," I said. Ace pulled me into a long kiss, lips soft against me, and we would've probably spent too long at it had Gene not coughed loudly.
"Alright lovebird, we've got to get across campus to calculus," he said, clapping me on the shoulder and dragging me off as I called a goodbye to Ace. "Seriously, what's wrong?" I asked once it was just the two of us. "Uh...nothing, really. I just...it's stupid, I'm just worried about Eric." "Carr?" "No, Singer. Don't worry about it though, I'm sure it'll be fine! How're things with Ace and his parents?" "Still good. He said there hasn't really been like an update or anything since the day before Halloween, so nothing new since we met up," I said. "Well hey, no news is good news," he said, and I smiled. "You're very correct."
"Hey Gene wait stop walking!" Eric called, running to catch up with us. "Where's Bruce?" I asked. "Oh he's with Singer, they're already at class. Hey I was talking to Coach right, we have to be here at 2 since we're captains," he said breathlessly. Gene let out a groan, closing his eyes. "That's bullshit. On Friday?" "Yeah, the date hasn't changed, just the time." "What's up?" I asked, looking at them in confusion. "Wrestling tournament. It's out of town and three days. And I guess we have to be here at two in the morning."
"Mm, imagine doing a sport that gives you a weekend commitment," I teased. "You guys went to state for water polo. That was a Saturday game," Eric countered. "I'd know, since Bruce made me go." "Alright we only went to state this year because Bruce is freakishly good at water sports," I said. "He's over six feet tall and can palm a basketball, of course he's going to be good at water polo," Gene said. "Downside for him in wrestling though is his long legs are an easy target," Eric teased as we reached the classroom, wrapping his arms around Bruce's waist. "Hi babe," Bruce said, patting him on the head with a fond smile.
I looked at them with a sigh, missing Ace, and briefly thought about dropping out of calc and switching to stats. As if he knew what I was thinking, Gene nudged me. "Hey, focus Pete, we've got calc," he teased, pushing me into the classroom. "Okay but calc is like the last thing I want to focus on," I said. "Then sit in your desk and daydream about your boyfriend, just at least be in the classroom," he said with a laugh, patting me on the shoulder.
With a sigh, I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the whiteboard as Ms. A ran through the lesson, daydreaming about Ace like Gene had rightly called me on. I had never been more excited to have the bell rang and scrambled to my feet, gathering all my stuff together and practically booking it from the room. Ace was waiting outside of econ for me, giving me a warm smile as he caught sight of me.
"Took you long enough," he teased, pulling me into a kiss. "Sorry, calc is on the other side of campus," I said before yanking him right back into another kiss. "I guess I'll let it slide this time," he said with a wink, kissing me on the forehead before walking into class with me. "I'm surprised you haven't been gloating about how nice it is to not be hiding the fact we're dating," I said, sitting next to him. "Well why would I do that? You had a good reason not to tell anyone, and I care most about you being happy!" he said cheerfully. My heart melted and I gave him a soft smile. "Love you."
"Love you too," he said, blowing me a kiss.
