"Oh no you are completely fine! It was my fault I positioned my body towards you!" Marie held the young boy by his shoulders, checking for any spilled coffee stains on his rugged, brown coat and pants.
"I-I really did not mean to miss." He said nervously, bowing slightly with his hands shaking at his sides. Marie's eyes widened, her hand coming to her mouth.
"Darling, don't say that! It's not your fault at all! You didn't mean to do it and I don't blame you! Just hurry along and- wait," Marie beckoned for a nearby maid she brought with her to the coffee and tea shop. The maid pulled out a gold coin, 50 times as much as the coffee really was. Marie took it and placed it in the boy's blistered palm. "Take this and buy you and your family new ones. Have a great day, okay sweetheart?" Marie patted the shocked boy by his shoulder, his eyes still glued to the gold coin as he had never truly had one before. She walked out the door with her entourage before he could say a word.
The young maid walked quicker, trying to keep up with the pace her young miss was walking at.
"Young miss, why did you give a child a gold coin? You know that is like giving a peasant thousands of dollars!" Most maids wouldn't be able to question their bosses, but Marie had proven that she believed everyone was equal, much to the surprise of the workers.
Marie smiled widely, pulling a stray strand of black hair away from her face.
"Well, Abby, I believe he could really use that coin for the best of him. It's not like we are running out of them anyways, what's the harm?" The maid nodded, her lips in a fine line.
They arrived at the carriage, commoners glancing at the fancy, dark green rimmed sides with the black colors. Compared to her family, Marie was definitely different.
Her father was the infamous Kai Trenton; the man who closed the dark circle that erupted from the sky one fateful day ten years ago. From then, he had been and still had been the most powerful sorcerer and magician in the world, gaining wealth and becoming the most well known Duke in the country. Even the world. Though he had many feats, he was a man who only worked for what he wanted, not caring about others. He barely cared about his children, especially Marie with her lighthearted personality, and he only provided them with the bare noble necessities like etiquette and proper food. Luckily, Marie's mother had tamed him to the point where he would often give his children gifts and visits to teach them magic as well.
Marie never had a proper conversation with her father before as he hated her innocent and righteous attitude, but nonetheless he favored her as he would his other children. Not like he really favored them anyhow.
Her brothers were a different story. From the moment they were born, Kai had put them into training camps led by the Trenton army generals in order to get stronger and tougher. Kai wanted Marie to participate as well but she had been sickly before, her mother begging him to pull her out.
Her brothers, one aged 18 and one aged 15, had turned out just like their father: cold and ruthless. They soon became known as the "blood-shedding beasts" and were honored for their awards and achievements they contributed to the society. To add onto it, they were also total hotties, their shiny jet black hair to their tall and broad shoulder stature made many noble women and commoners like them when the men didn't even know they existed.
The older one, Theo, acknowledged Marie as his sister but barely spoke to her as her personality differed too much for them to have a peaceful conversation.
Frankie, the 15 years old, also acknowledged her as a sister and spoke to her more often, usually assisting her on her daily outings if he wasn't busy. They were closer in age and besides, without their father and mother at home often, Marie and Theo took care of him like parents would. Frankie would always love his siblings, even if they made many mistakes. That's no excuse for the people he had killed though. The thousands of families that mourned each year because of his rampages were definitely not normal for a young teenager.
Marie also had a younger sister, the youngest of the family, but she was sent off to an academic camp at the age of five since Kai noticed she couldn't process information quick enough. He thought something was wrong with her and sent her away as if that was what she needed. They hadn't seen her in years and she must've been about 11 now, though Marie had secretly met up with her a few times at the school during an outing.
The dark carriage with the black horses signaled to the crowd that it was a Trenton carriage, and they quickly moved out of the way for Marie. Marie had been 16 years old, her long black hair cascading down her back elegant like as she adjusted her bonnet. Her straight nose and plump, pink lips to her petite hands and slightly freckled face made her one of the most eligible bachelorettes in the country. Not to mention her deep blue eyes that wouldn't be afraid of some eye contact. She was certainly at the top of many lists of marriageable nobles. The only problem was, or it wasn't even a problem, was her happy personality.
No matter what happened, she would blame it on herself and praise the other like a madman, her kind and sweet aura pulling people to her naturally. This, obviously, caused some problems with her family but she learned to get through it. Compared to Theo and Frankie with their "idgaf, get away from me you idiot" attitude, people thought Marie would be the easiest to get connections to the Trenton duchy. Sadly, they had no idea she had thoughts inside.
"Did she just backhandedly insult me?"
"Wow, they make me, Marie, sound like the villain! How absurd."When she got into the carriage, Prissy, the young maid, walked in and sat on the other side as well. The coachman started making the horses move.
"Are you excited for the Alter Ego serum? You're going to drink it tonight and it'll start in effect till the three days are over!" The maid giggled. "I'd love to see how you act when you aren't in your right state of mind, my young miss is always too kind."
Marie smiled and shook her head lightly, popping her pearly whites out.
"I would say i'm excited but, what if I do something rude? I'll be like that for three days!"
Prissy giggled again. "Well, young miss, I'm fairly sure everyone will know that the serum will make you the opposite of how you are. They won't blame you if you do something wrong, especially when they know you aren't really like that!"
Marie smiled and looked to her side, playing with the small dark green ruffles attached to the side of her white sun dress. She had a brown corset on the outside of her dress with black heels wrapping around her feet. The bonnet on her head was a dark green color and matched nicely with her flowy hair. Anyone who saw her would think she's a noble, there's no question necessary.
"Well, hopefully I don't act too reckless."

Thanks for reading the first chapter! I didn't edit anything yet so if I want to add something in there I'll do it one day.
Let's just say this story is going to short as it'll end right after the effect of the serum goes away. I did this merely out of my own entertainment but it would be much appreciated if you commented or if you stick with the story!
If anyone wants a full explanation of the Alter Ego serum, comment and ill explain it at the end of one of my chapters haha
