she chuckled to herself. "all my life, it's almost as if......there had been infinite comets looming over me. and i failed to notice them until the very last moment. and now, they're all crashing down." her chuckles soon quieted down into a small, sad smile as she kept her gaze on the ground. she reminisced all the memories she made, all the mistakes she wished she could correct.
in the beginning, everything was fine. it was almost as if the universe was waiting for her to make one slip. and she did. then it came crashing down. like a domino effect, one error led to several others. she tried to stop, but that just made it worse. one by one, everything came crashing down. confidence. pride. family. friendships. love. dreams. passion. hope.
there was so much more in between. she tried so hard to stop it. especially for him. she didn't want him to leave her too, just like everything else. he promised her he wouldn't.
her smile fell into a more relaxed expression, her thoughts swirling around one person and one person only.
it was as if her world had brightened when he set foot in it. she never thought she would even get to talk to someone properly again, without her being immediately labelled as an outcast five minutes into the conversation. he hugged her, laughed with her, called and texted to check on how she was doing. baked her muffins when she was feeling down, or at least trying to, along with a mug of hot chocolate from the cafe down the street. smeared icing on her nose whenever there was any in sight.
she almost laughed at that memory. almost.
life was finally taking it easy on her. but she seemed to forget about in his arms. she forgot that the smallest fault could strike her down, she put her walls down. that's when it fell. i think, that's when she fell. all it took was just a few words said in the heat of the moment, and her world darkened again.
that was the last domino tile.
and, as she looked back up from her gaze on the ground to look up at the stars, a tear rolled down her cheek. her sobs filled the air as she cried for what felt like the first time in her life. she felt lost. she had kept it all in for too long, she had smiled through the pain for too long. hugged herself to sleep every night for way too long.
the stars couldn't do anything but watch as they lamented the curse of knowledge that had been granted upon them long ago. they knew full well,
the infinite comets were a beautiful chaos few could find their way out of. but she was already lost.
