Summary: On the advice of Obi-Wan Kenobi serval of the Organas along with their ward Winter Retrac flee their beloved home of Alderaan and are forced to leave much behind.
Technically takes place during chapter three of Rebels of Alderaan. It's between Obi-Wan's flashback and the end scene of chapter three.

It was somewhat of a miracle that Winter had been back on Alderaan in the first place. Originally, she had been off word meeting with one of her contacts for the rebellion but her contact was forced to cancel at the last minute in order to maintain their cover on Coruscant. Of course, shortly after she returned to Alderaan a giant space station started hovering above it and the Empire was claiming that Leia was killed aboard the Tantive IV in an accident but admittedly Winter would rather deal with that here than in some shady cantina.

Like Bail and Breha Winter didn't believe the Empire's lies. She didn't believe that Leia was dead and even if she was Winter doubted it was because of some starship accident.

Winter knew that Bail and Breha were waiting in the throne room to meet with an old friend of their's that they believed could help them but they had asked for no one to intrude unless it was an emergency and that included Winter. Bail and Breha promised they would tell her who it was later. Winter didn't have to wait long as soon Breha came rushing into her room.

"We need to leave," Breha said. "All of Alderaan us under threat and we need to leave."

Winter didn't give herself time to allow the words to digest inside her instead moving into action mode quickly moving about her room while Breha rushed to her own. Winter didn't waist time thinking to deeply or allowing the pain of her home to sink in but rather she grabbed the first articles of clothing that her fingers touched and stuffed them into her open bag which was still on her bed from her recent unsuccessful trip. Luckily she didn't have anything linked back to the rebellion, beside her blaster which was attached to her waist, just lying about her room so she didn't need to destroy any evidence.

As Winter was stuffing some of her clothes into her bag something suddenly hit her. Neena!

Neena was currently on Alderaan but she wasn't at the palace meaning there was no way she would make it in time. But she was also a ward of the House of Organa like Winter as well as a spy for the rebellion there was no way the Imperials were going to leave her alone! Winter needed to warn her!

Winter quickly took out her comm and sent Nenna a message:

Empire is coming. Escaping with Organas. Be careful. Stay safe.

Once the message was sent Winter threw the comm on the floor and stomped on it, smashing the device. She couldn't risk the Empire trying to track it. It was safer for everyone this way.

Winter threw the bag over her shoulder and began making her way to the palace's private spaceport. She tried not to think of the childhood treasures that she had to leave behind like her keepsake chest and the few holos of her parents she owned. She tried not to think of the parts of the palace that would soon belong to the Empire like the halls she used to run around in as a child or the gazebo in the garden where Winter had had her first kiss, during sunset. But most of all she tried not to think of all the people she felt like she was abandoning.

Meanwhile Breha was in her own room also preparing to leave while her husband was arranging evacuation for as many people as possible. Breha had never really packed for herself before, though she wasn't incompetent enough to not know how to do it, but she had sent her attendants home early and she couldn't afford to get anyone else involved.

Breha wasn't really thinking too much as she packed for both herself and her husband though she did try to focus more on their practical clothing and completely ignored her hairpieces, jewellery, makeup and her husband's cloaks and shaving kit.

As the large bag became so full that it's seams were at risk of breaking Breha closed it and ignored the weight of the bag as she carried it out of her private chambers. Suddenly though, she remembered something that she would need to do before she left which would at the very least slow down the Imperials and quickly rushed to her daughter's room.

Once she opened the door she found what-or rather who she was looking for as Leia's personal attendant droid WA-2V rolled around as she was reorganising Leia's vanity table.

"Your Majesty," 2V greeted Breha with the proper formality, "might I inquire-"

Before 2V could finish her question Breha had leaned over and flipped the switch on the droids neck, shutting her down. It may not due much if the Imperials decided to crack 2V open anyway but at the least it would slow them down and give 2V a chance to not be destroyed. Luckily 2V didn't know anything about the rebellion regardless so at least Breha didn't have to worry about that.

"Sorry TooVee," Breha whispered as if the droid could still here her.

Breha was about to turn and finally leave the palace (the place that had been her home since she was a child but Breha was trying not to think of that) she suddenly stopped. It may be a long shot but . . . Breha walked towards Leia's bed and slipped her arm under the bottom two pillows trying to see if she could find-ah!

Breha pulled out the old toy nerf. It seemed Leia must have left it there last time she had returned to Coruscant. Breha remembered how Leia used to sleep with it every night as a child. The toy had been a gift from Bail who had bought it on Corellia while he had been there on a fact finding mission for the Imperial Senate. Leia had named it 'Hannie' and hadn't allowed anyone to make fun of it or it's name.

Breha clutched the small thing against her heart and began making her way out of Leia's room, the royal apartments and the Royal Palace of Aldera.

Breha knew she would stay behind for as long as possible in order to ensure the evacuation of civilians and she knew Bail would as well but Breha knew that she would likely leave Alderaan in the next few hours and would possibly never come back. However, Breha swore to herself that she would keep this small old toy close to her and would only relinquish it if she could place it back into Leia's own hands.

Author's notes: Okay so technically Bail doesn't appear in this but I can't be bothered to change the title.
