Hazel and Jared

12 Week Appointment

I'm super nervous going to this appointment especially on my own. Charlie said if they do an ultrasound he wants a picture I told him of course no problem. I hate that I am all alone and no one is with me. My dad is working my step mom took a late lunch to drop me off and she is picking me up.

"Hazel Abrantes" the nurse calls out.

I follow her back to the room she asks some questions and takes my vitals them says the doctor will be right in.

About 10mins later the doctor comes in and introduces her self. She asks all the normal questions.

"How has morning sickness been?"

"Better but it was pretty bad before. I still get it occasionally."

"Okay, as your new doctor I need to tell you that you have options. I know that you have already heard it but as a law I need to tell you."

She goes through all the options that i have heard before. "Okay now lets take a look at that little baby." She puts the goop on my belly that is really cold she moves the wand around I let out a breath that I didn't even realize I was holding when I finally hear the thump of a heart beat. "Well everything looks good, baby is right where they should be developmentally and in size. You may start to feel little flutters in your belly that is the baby moving see." she points at the screen where I can see my little bean moving around slightly. "Do you want pictures?"

"Yes please."

"I have to ask this question. Is the dad of the baby involved?"

I sigh I knew this was coming I just hate explaining it because I think people think I'm a slut or whore when I tell them. "Yes, but hes back in california so its hard. We weren't in a relationship and we still arent. We are really close friends and we went to a party one night. Everyone was drinking and one thing lead to another. We didn't really mean for it to happen."

She nods as she listens and then smiles and says. "Ok, I'll give you 2 sets of pictures then."

She gives me the pictures and has me go make an appointment for my 16 week gender ultrasound. I hadn't even thought of that. My dad ordered a crib and bassinet online over the weekend neutral colors. Charlie sent me 2 onesies one that says I love my daddy and the other says I love my mommy. I text Charlie a picture of the ultrasound and tell him that I will mail him the copies.

C-I told my mom this morning I'll text you after school. It went ok I guess.

H-You better.

I work on homework as long as I can but my mind keeps wondering to Charlie telling his mom. Its 4pm which means its only 1pm in california, I still have to wait another hour and half before he is out of school. I start pacing the room I can't sit still, I need to know what happened with his mom. The doorbell rings and I ignore it until I hear my step mom yells "Jared's here." I few moments later he knocks on my door and I say "Come in." I'm still pacing and he watches me for a few seconds and then says "Someone seems a little anxious."

"I'm waiting for my friend from Cali to call me. He texted me earlier."

"Oh a he, is this a boyfriend?" he sounds kinda sad but then pokes me in the side jokingly making me squeal.

"No, Charlie is just a really good friend. Hes been there for me through a lot. Hes the one that helped me through everything with Parker."

Jared smiles "Sounds like the same friendship I used to have with Scarlett."

"I don't think she likes me much." I say before I can stop my self.

Jared stops where he is staring at me, he takes 3 quick steps standing right infront of me looking in my eyes with intensity "No one could ever not like you, shes mad at me so she hasn't even gotten to know you yet. Once I figure out a way to fix things, I'm sure she will love you."

My heart fills with warmth and butterflies start in my stomach, I'm not sure about this feeling but I really like it. Right then my phone rings and I rush toward it.

"Hey, Jareds here so give me a sec to go down stairs." I look at Jared and say "Do you mind, I'm going to go down stairs to talk to him, you can watch tv or something ok?" Jared nods and smiles as I head out my bedroom door. I head downstairs throw on my shoes and grab the jacket Jared gave me and head to the porch swing out front.

"Alright, we can talk now."

"You still haven't told anyone there. They are going to find out eventually. Isn't it getting hard to hide your belly?"

I sigh "Yeah, but I'm waiting for the right time, I don't want to have to tell people, Im worried about what he will think of me..I mean they."

Charlie sighs on the other end of the line "Your starting to get feelings for him aren't you?"

"What no!" my voice going up an octave a tell tale sign that I'm lying.

"Hazel, you can't lie to me and remember what you told me. We aren't together, and I don't expect you to not date other people because of me. We are best friends and that is enough. I will always be in my baby's life as dad and if our baby ends up having 2 dads then thats just extra. I would like to meet him though, and if he hurts you I will hurt him."

"We are just friends."

"Mhmmm" he says not covincinly.

"Anyways, how did things go with your mom?"

"She yelled a lot. She was pissed that I didn't tell her sooner. She is also pissed that you had to move to Mass. She kept saying how I have rights and you can't just move with out my consent. So I told her first off she didn;t have a choice her dad was moving for a better job, plus I told her I would try and visit when I can and I will get a job to help. Im willing to make this work for my baby. She said are you guys together are you going to marry her."

I gasp and almost choke on my own spit.

"I told her she was fucking crazy. I said no we aren't dating, I'm not marrying her, it just happened and we need to deal with it and thats what I'm doing. Then she said why didn't she just get rid of it. To which i flipped a lid, I told her first off she didn't want to and second of all I wouldn't have wanted her to. I would have supported her if that was her choice but it wasn't and you are ridiculous for even saying that. Then I left for school."

"I'm sorry Charlie."

"Haz, its not your fault, we both did this and we are going to handle it the best way that we can. I found a job after school at the gas station so I will be able to send you money."

"Charlie I appreciate that but don't send me all your money save some for yourself. Send me a little and that will be fine."

"What ever Haz." I can almost hear him rolling his eyes at me.

"Okay I got to go I think I left Jared alone in my room long enough."

"Okay text me later."
